it is because it is a beta file, that is still be worked on but has been released in its current state. this means that it is going to be buggy and will not be perfect.

I think it's a zip because it's a beta simulation.

Can you be a bit more specific? Which bit can't you get to work?

EDIT: Three people replying at once- new record?

Does anyone by any chance still have the NLL scrolly sim on here? There is a game on which I would like to join but since I changed my PC I don't have the files and can't get them in the downloads section.

If someone has them and wouldn't mind letting me have them then please email to

Then I will be very glad to receive them.

Cheers,
Dave

This should be made available generally. The paged NLL is really old now and is IMO unplayable because you have to continually close the TT popup between each request.

It's not generally available as the developer of the sim is still working on it in between working on other sims and having a life outside of SimSig (But inside of the pub!!).

The paged NLL has many more bugs (mostly affecting the Stratford & Reading Lane Jn fringes) than the scrolly one. As such, it seems a strange decision to hold back the scrolly version because it would be buggy.

It's not being held back because it's buggy, it's being held back because it needs to be upgraded to the latest loader specification which isn't a 5 minute job

Which I kind of get, but the beta is out there and would appear to be a big improvement on the current version.

Okay, so we release the beta version and get slated when people find issues with it? At the end of the day, the dev building the sim is upgrading it to the latest loader and is not going to release it until it's in a state that he is happy with, a state that people would accept

Although I don't want to get involved with whether or not the scrolly version of the NLL (was it .exe or loader I can't remember) should be released as it was....

I always thought it was well received by the forum at the time, with several people writing up timetables that where compatible with the extra bits compared to the paged version.

As compared with some sims that come out for sale with more bugs (or, at least, more visible bugs) than the NLL "beta" had? I don't really get the impression that the quality of initial releases of sims have changed much since betas stopped being released.

As far as I am concerned the decision to release a sim, in whatever form, rests solely with the developer of that sim.

If a sim is released as a Beta then I would expect it to have bugs and wouldn't complain about them (other than reporting them so that they can be fixed). A public beta shouldn't really have any showstopper bugs though.

If, however, the sim is released as a normal sim then it is reasonable to expect that there aren't any bugs - at least nothing glaringly obvious - and those that are spotted after released are fixed quickly.
