To avoid making the more general thread "timetable wish list?" confusing, and to encourage more information if possible, I thought I'd start a different thread to gather information about the PHJ blockade.

The Saltley sim already has a startup scenario "Derby Lines - Landor to New Street closed" which effectively closes PHJ. There was a fascinating 19 day closure of this major junction in 1999 to allow remodeling and upgrades to take place.

At the moment you have to use the normal WTT with this scenario and I'm considering trying to create a modified timetable with the routes that were actually used (where possible). Reality seems to be that 315 of the 1292 trains in the WTT need this junction and require the Camp Hill / Lifford curve diversion or routing/terminating elsewhere.

Quick maths suggests that putting a 20 minute diversion in to replace a 3 minute route means that several other services would have had to terminate elsewhere to stand any chance of getting through the timetable within 24 hours at New Street. So I'm trying to find out more!

What is known so far (or believed to be the case):

Trains that must go to New Street from that end went via Camp Hill and the Lifford Curve into the "wrong end".

Some services terminated at B'ham International (at least Northampton services that started at Euston)

Did several non-peak services from that side also terminate at Longbridge not New Street?

Google has so far uncovered little apart from:

to clarify- are you doing a 1999 "proof house jcn diversion" timetable. or just modifying the existing 2009 timetable as if there was a diversion in place that year?

"Longford"? I can only guess you've managed to misread/type "Longbridge", unless your trains are going via Ireland! It's also not really a "via ... not" but a "called at ... not" (assuming that's what the post meant, I read it as "called additionally at"), as those trains go via Longbridge anyway!

Doing anything will depend on obtaining the correct info. If I do go ahead then the first attempt will be based on the 2009 timetable. So the idea would be learning how they coped last time around and modifying the trains routes in a similar way where possible.

If time permits I'd like to do a true 1999 TT but we'll see! One step at a time!

LOL, sorry yes, will edit! Actually there is a Longford in Coventry, a little nearer, but still not practical!
Thanks for the correction, in that case I could do with clarification from the original poster (in original timetable wishlist thread) about why it's significant if the trains went through there anyway.

I assume he either meant that those trains called at Longbridge normally in those days (they don't now), or that they ran Landor - Kings Norton during these diversions and skipped New Street entirely, and instead called at Longbridge where passengers for New Street would change for Cross City services.

I would suggest using a 2000 timetable though, and that page suggests that there was little change overall. There should be a GBTT 2000 on ebay for postage soon enough, otherwise I do have one if there's any specific queries.

Fantastic information - thanks very much. That information has tipped the balance and made the project possible. I now have a Summer 2000 TT on it's way to me as well.
