The only ones you really need to acknowledge are telephone messages.

The ones that pop up while you are playing such as 'train 0Z00 entering at Lockerbie' . etc don't need a reply.

Have you highlighted your message in the list of replies?

Click on and highlight your response and the reply button will appear.

I highlighted a message, clicked "answer" which then took me to the "select your reply" box and clicked "ok" but no "reply" button appeared.
It sounds like you still didn't actually pick a response so you just put the caller on hold, rather than answering them. "Select your reply" is a clue, even if there is only one possibility other than putting on hold.

I have just gone right back to the beginning. I re-installed the System files and then tried to download Carlisle again but this time I was unable to. I got a messsage which appeared at the bottom of the screen entitled "Running security scan" which read "Carlisle v3 238 1 (3).exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer". There were 3 buttons "delete" "actions" & "view downloads". I clicked on the actions button and another box appeared and gave me these 3 options "don't run this program" "delete program" & "run anyway". I clicked on "run anyway" and it then took me through the installation process. All looked to be going fine until another messsage appeared "an errror occurred while trying to replace the existing file. Delete file failed code 5. Access is denied". I then aborted to cancel. Now I am stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you uninstall Carlisle first? It sounds like it was trying to overwrite the existing installation and, what with the antivirus interfering (for want of a better word), it wasn't able to overwrite. Try uninstalling Carlisle and trying again.

That looks very like a message generated by whatever security systems you have set up on your PC/laptop. I get similar messages from the Comodo freeware when I try and run anything which the system thinks is new and unidentified.

Yeah I get the messages here too. Mainly come up because SimSig isn't a commonly downloaded file when you compare it to something like Skype and iTunes etc and that's the sort of program that most Internet security/anti virus software coarse stuff too. Also being a relatively new file (has only been released for a week) people still haven't all downloaded it yet. Geoff wouldn't put something up that knowingly will harm your computer, but the saying goes if you don't want to risk it, don't download it
