Hi All,

I have been playing SimSig for a couple of years, and now that I am working I would like to donate to the developers of a few of my favourite simulations. However. after going through the process of selecting the sims and going to the checkout, I am given the options to log in to PayPal or to create a new PayPal account. I am strongly adverse to creating a PayPal account (though I do not mind donating through PayPal on a one-off basis), so is there a way of donating without having to set up a permanent PayPal account? I am sure I have done it before when purchasing other items elsewhere.

Regards,

Gwasanaethau (Mark)

When you get to the PayPal screen there are three main areas. On the left is your order. On the top right is a log in area entitled "Have a PayPal account?". Underneath that it says "Don't have a PayPal account?" and says you can pay with your credit or debit card as a guest.

Thanks in advance for any donations!

I guess a sort-code and account number would suffice, though I believe SimSig has no UK bank account anymore; can you SO into a PayPal account?.

Also as, Mr Clarkson found out, publishing such details is not necessarily a wise idea.

Thanks for your reply, Geoff.

When I posted earlier, you could indeed pay without signing up for a PayPal account so long as you left the country field as "United States". If you changed the country to "United Kingdom", the box for "Pay with your debit or credit card as a PayPal guest" changed to "Sign up for a PayPal account", leaving no way to pay as a 'PayPal guest'. Unfortunately, trying to insert a British address when leaving the country as "United States" failed. It now seems to have changed so that you can, in fact, now pay using a British card under a British address without having to sign up.

The transaction seems to have gone through now. I apologise for the confusion!

Although the details could be PM'd or e-mailed to someone if there was an option somewhere to request them.

Correct on the former; no idea on the latter.

Odd, though I guess I see things from the US end (even if a masquerade as anonymous, it probably picks up a US IP address). On the other hand, not necessarily odd when there are at least two different emails I get from PayPal when payment is received - in today's case, both UK buyers so I've no idea why they differ in format!

Unfortunately I am now having problems with logging into the Licence Manager for the Scotland sims. When I enter my username and password, it tells me "Unable to log in: Invalid user (error code 2)". Do you know what might be causing the problem?

Don't know the answer to the error code but are you, like me, someone who is permanently logged into the forum, so rarely enter the user details/password? If so can you log out an then back into the forum and see if that works? Email me at Peter.bennet@SimSig.co.uk if you get locked out and I can reset your password.

If that works OK then make sure you have the correct data entered into the license manager.

If that does not work then Geoff's input will probably be required.

It means your user name and/or password are incorrect. It uses the same database table as this website to validate your username/password so, as Peter says, check what you use here. Actually you can reset the password yourself by clicking the "forgot password link". Finally, if you're logged into this site, click the User menu at the top, then Your Details, and you can enter a new password (or what you think is the same one).

I log in to the forum using my username and password every time. I do not like being left logged into sites as it is fairly easy for someone else (locally) to mess around with your login.

I am certain I am using the correct details as I can log into the forum no problem. I will try changing my password and will keep you both updated as to the progress on this. Thanks for your help so far.

Update: Right, it seems the Licence Manager does not like passwords containing non-ASCII characters, such as the £ sign (which I did not realise was non-ASCII until a few moments ago). Changing my password seems to have fixed this.

Glad to hear that's resolved. I had a similar problem with my personal email address which contains a - a while back where a site owner refused to believe that an email address could contain such a character.

Just a note I've logged this issue on the bug board.
