Is NWC a good single player sim? 11/05/2013 at 17:19 #44606

Hi all, I'm looking for another sim to add to my repertoire, and this time I want to master an area I'm unfamiliar with (I've previously avoided sims that are "foreign" to me), and I've had a couple of recommendations of NWC from other players.

My question is this: is NWC a sim that is suitable for single player operation by someone with an average skill level?

Also, any hints and tips for operation of the sim are welcomed (although I will of course, read the manual fully )

Thanks in advance,

Tim

If you are just playing one of the "vanilla" timetables, I'm sure you'll get on just fine, I wouldn't however recommend the "Project X" timetable if you are playing alone for the first time.

Terms and conditions as always do apply, and perhaps I'm a tiny bit biased

This is what I will do, and I'll update this when I've had a session on the sim

Yes

Some sims I just never get to grips with though, even if the size and business isn't overwhelming.

NWC with the 2009 timetable isn,t busy but you should turn absolute block off which is a pain in the rear end for a single player. 1 don,t know what you have played but Royston is a good sim for solo players. Likewise Lancing, although I havn,t played it yet. I can vaguely recollect another welsh Sim is is ok for solo players. I believe you could cope with Swindid ok with auto route setting. As a rule of thumb most, if not all sims, can be played solo with a midnight start.
thinking about it Worksop is rather detailed but not busy with some absolute block areas. you could have a crack at that one.

NWC is an excellent solo sim when absolute block working is turned off! the 2009 TT is easy to run at 1x or 1.5x speed but I recommend using .5x speed if your are soloing the Project X TT. it is a very enjoysble sim!

Thanks for the replies guys, I've downloaded NWC and so far I've done just over an hour with the 2009TT, first impressions are good, as it's an interesting and good sized area, but I can still stay in control easily.
