Thanks for this article, which as a non-professional I found particularly informative. I've added it to the Links section of our Wiki.

I wonder if it is incomplete as it ends abruptly without even a final period.

Pity that the nice photo of the Colchester IECC found its way into the section on NX panels - and this is on a website for rail engineers! Nonetheless, for those who might like to blow it up as wallpaper, here's a direct link to it.

Here's one for the "Where's that signalbox?" brigade. Where's the lever frame in the top pic? (Hint: On saving and blowing up the pic, one can just make out the name "Stockport"...)

That's Heaton Norris Jn., the northernmost of the five mechanical boxes at Stockport. The text in the foreground is "Down Slow from Stockport No.2" - some form of route describer, I'd guess, to indicate whether it's a train for the main or the branch at Heaton Norris. The next instrument is the corresponding one for the Down Fast.

You wouldn't have a non-pegger for the down lines at Heaton Norris though! The black bits certainly look like the pegging parts - I wonder whether the non-peggers (for the up lines) are the instruments located over the last of the red levers to the right...to facilitate double-manning?
