If I leave a train waiting at Honiton for a while, I get a phone call with the message “I have train <foo> waiting”. Possible reply options are “OK”, “Wait 2 minutes”, and “Wait 10 minutes”. Wait 2/10 minutes clearly mean wait that long and then phone me again. What in the world does “OK” mean? It obviously doesn’t mean “the train is permitted to drive forward”, since that’s done by moving the instrument lever, not by answering the phone. I honestly have no idea what this reply actually does! I tried it, and the other end seemed to phone me back in 5 minutes.

Given the option of delaying by 2 or 10 minutes, OK is likely to mean just that. "OK, I can take that train and will operate my equipment to allow it on it's way." Log in to reply |

OK, this makes sense. I was used to drivers phoning in from red signals, where there is no “OK, I will let you go immediately” option—you can either say “wait 2 minutes” and then clear the signal, or clear the signal while on the phone and have the driver hang up—so the “OK” seemed to convey no real information, compared to the options available in the red signal case. Thanks for the info.
