Hi,

I've been playing around on South Humberside with one of the line closure scenarios selected (Ulceby - Conoco closed), and have had an issue when reversing a train. In the below screenshot the train with ID 6T31S has been reversed from D103 signal, onto the Up line on the approach to Humber Road Junction. It has got to the crossover points (which have been keyed) and is now complaining that it has ran out of valid track. Not quite sure why... Screenshot should show the crossover mentioned. Would include a save file, but for some reason the save files aren't showing in the upload tool. No idea why..



Edit to add: I've also found out that trying to run it wrong line as follows also causes it to run out of valid track:

It's probably due to the track not being valid/authorised for a wrong direction movement, ie the length of track is truly uni-directional. Within the SimSig data, there simply isn't any track existing in that direction.
I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Nice try, but no. Even if the data doesn't include the other direction, the core code synthesises it so that trains can be reversed if necessary.

Could be an error in the TC end data so when going in reverse the sequence points to a wrong or non-existent TC?

I could go back and look at the release version of the data but I am not sure it would help any. The sim's current data is now significantly different from the release version and with addition of the conversion to the loader format, I suspect if there was a problem it may have already been dealt with. Still, I will take a look at the current data when a get a minute though to check just in case.

Not sure that helps you out for the current release though I am afraid.

On the subject of South Humberside, is there any news on when the new version will be released?

It has been converted to the new loader format which has meant a re-write of several of the features. We've been through a couple of test iterations and work is progressing, albeit slowly. Unfortunately, personal priorities have severely curtailed the amount of time I have for anything much, let alone SimSig development work.

It's being worked on, that's all I can say.

If you have a fairly recent computer the files are likely in the Virtual Store folder: C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SimSig\South_Humberside\

To see it (well, the AppData folder) you'll have to turn on the "Show hidden files and folders" option. The VirtualStore folders are used when some programs try to write to a folder that's considered a system folder.

"Fairly recent computer" refers to what OS the PC is running aka is it running Windows Vista or later. If you are then the above is one possible explanation. However, knowing what location the sim in question was installed into and where LucasLCC was looking for the the files would be the place to start.

I naturally assumed they would be in the program files along with everything else. Apparently that isn't the case! They were indeed buried in Appdata. Thank you both for your help.

'fraid not. There has been numerous discussions about this and it's basically the result of additional security Microsoft placed on files stored in Program Files folder since Windows Vista.

To cut a long story short, in XP you can stick everything under program Files and everything works great. The original .exe installers did this. However, when Vista was released and in every OS since then, while you can install software into the Program Files, an application requires what I shall call "Super-amdin" rights to save anything when running normally. For SimSig that's saved games, and TT changes. If you try and save stuff, Windows won't let you and instead saves the file in the virtual store so when you go to look where you think it should be, strangely, it's not there.

As a consequence of the problems with the saves and so on, Geoff created new installers that moved the files into "Public Documents" as there is no such restrictions and everything works correctly. However, some people didn't like this as they wanted everything in one place and change the installation location back to Program Files. This of course generates problems when people can't find files and SimSig doesn't work as they expect.

We have loader sims now of course and ALL sim files are installed by default into public documents. If your are on Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, I'd always recommend using the default locations for these as you'll know exactly where all the files are going as it's the same structure for all sims and it's a lot less hassle in the long run.
