I have been playing the default timetable on the new loader with everything fully updated.

I managed to get the engine into Watton Oil terminal but then wrong-lined the outbound up train onto the up line so it is now permanently jammed as there is no route for the run-round to take place. I was left with the option of either abandoning the sim or removing the train (not something you can just do in real life!).

When I checked the Wiki there is no information about movements into/out of any of the freight terminals or about the various ground-frames despite there being platform lengths for all sorts of locations. I realise these are only a small part of each timetable but they are an integral part of operations and I'm sure that every signaller would be expected to understand how they work.

The trouble with big changes to how a sim works is sometimes the documentation isn't fully updated at the same time! Unless anyone beats me to it I'll have a look at updating the wiki later this evening

No need to add anything about Ground Frames. The subject is more than adequately covered in the general wiki information. A quick search under ground frames refers you to lever frames and lo and behold we have a full explanation for something that is encountered on more Sims than Kings Cross....what's more it was last edited by our good friend Max.

Linky, although there may be subtleties on KX requiring a special note in the manual.

There is a "Signalbox Special Instructions" section to KX manual, notes on Watton GF's operation have been added there. I've also taken the liberty of tidying up the manual - we don't need 3 tables saying what the second digit of the TD means, nor a FCC fleet list with what livery each unit is in. I'm wiki-ed out for now, but will probably have another prune in the coming days.

I am quite comfortable with the principles of using ground frames - I have been a SimSig user for many years, though I have not really had a go at KX before. Thanks for the linky, JamesN and Steamer, it was useful as I was struggling to find the page without it!

The way that Watton works is very different to other g/fs I have used such as those on Carlisle - not in the way the levers work but the use of hand signals, the route needed to exit the yard and do a run-round (I know now but it cost me a 3 1/2 hour marathon stint!!), the fact that the shunt signal on the down line only appears after you set certain routes etc.

I know we are not dealing with real people's lives or millions of real pounds worth of equipment but no-one would be set loose on signalling the area without a serious amount of training and supervision. The Wiki is the equivalent of that training for we non-professionals.

The Wiki is an enterprise which anyone can update so that what is essentially a volunteer operation can benefit from the collective expertise available. Now that you have fathomed the detailed operation, would you be willing to add to the Wiki to save future users the same problems?
