Not sure where this sits within the conflict of interest but any views on a sim set in the 1980's-1990's covering Dartford PSB down to say Faversham incorporating the boxes at Rochester/Gillingham/Rainham/Sittingbourne/Faversham and including the Medway Valley line/Sheerness branch and Grain freight line. Scope for plenty of freight workings and commuter traffic etc.

I understand from the TRE website that the 2 MCS workstations covering the North Kent area have already been simulated for Network Rail. Whether these could ever be released in their current form as Marylebone was, I don't know, but it seems unlikely. Log in to reply |

1980s/90s wouldn't have a conflict of interest I imagine, as they predate the current workstations. Research would be rather more challenging though.

Yes, Dartford PSB pre-dates any conflict of interest. There is a video out there somewhere, probably on Youtube, of them installing and testing Dartford panel.

If a pre IECC sim covering the Dartford ASC & the Medway/swale area (ie Rochester/Gillingham/Sittingbourne/Faversham) boxes in the 1980's & 90's period & perhaps those on the Medway Valley line was ever considered I could assist with research as I started as a boxboy at Gillingham in 1986 & was a secondman/driver in the same area so am familiar with the then track layouts & freight/passenger traffic.

Without knowing what is required by the developers of any rival simulation I could not comment on what information they use/need. What I do know is that the level of information required to make a realistic SimSig simulation is substantial, and that for anywhere in the 1950s it is unlikely to be available. A photograph of the box diagram will not be enough as it only shows where each signal/point/track is relative to the others not how they interlock with each other, how long they are etc. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: elltrain3 |

My understanding is that between National archives Kew (for WTT and loco diagrams etc), the SRS and various people around the Exeter West group that there is a suffice of information for their purposes which are not far short of SimSig at all. Given that SimSig is track circuit based, artificial TC's would need to be created anyway as little TC existed back then, much as is the case still in mechanical areas, with the on-screen red occupations being more a case of 'I can see the train' from the box. Interlocking either from first principles or notices again is not unobtainium by any means. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: ajax103 |
