There has previously been an official SimSig visit to Preston (I was on it). However more than just photos are required to build a sim and whilst I would love to see it I don't recall the meet being in any way indicative of plans to create a sim of it. Would be happy to be proved wrong; as a Lancastrian it'd be great to see my 'home' sim. There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway. Log in to reply |

Interesting diagrams but just be careful you aren't breaking any copyright or other terms of use by posting them here!

Question: Would the Preston Docks Branch be a separate panel? It's a more complex layout than the diagrams suggest. Could the core code handle a swing bridge, that is also a full barrier level crossing / shared right of way (and has been known to be blocked by an errant cyclist parked up and reluctant to move); which is interlocked with a second full barrier level crossing about a chain away (and maybe the nearby AOCL in the other direction); with the whole lot protected by trap points into sand drags? The swing bridge is opened on request for (mostly) leisure boat traffic when water levels permit, and that function is controlled from the same location but by a different authority; so the pattern of activity is determined externally, and varies unpredictably with tides, weather, and daylight... :yikes Second thoughts, leave it as single track which a few bitumen trains and the occasional railtour visit. We'll pretend our captive trains don't exist. Last edited: 24/05/2014 at 03:31 by Backup Log in to reply |

According to Quail, Network Rail's ownership ends just before Strand Road LC, so I'd assume Preston PSB only controls up to that point. Beyond that, the line's under the control of the Ribble Steam Railway. Out of interest, does anyone know what method they use to control the line?

Would the Preston Docks Branch be a separate panel? RSR is not controlled by the PSB. Its controlled by the members who run the railway. Once the train has left mainline and the last signalling TPWS/Signal at Strand Road LC, the train proceeds for 1/2 mile to the exchange sidings where a RSR shunter is waiting. The loco un-couples runs round and couples to the empty tanks. Once back at Strand Road LC, they contact PSB for permission to enter the mainline/signalling. If permission is given RSR operate the barriersfor the train to proceed up the hefty incline to PN094. Aaron (AJRO) | Timetable Writer Log in to reply |
