Distinguishing loader from pre-loader sims 05/07/2014 at 08:38 #62454 | |

I am trying to reorganize my collection of sims, identifying those which require the new loader from the older ones which don't. As a general rule, I can assume that sims with a version number of 4.x are definitely loader versions of earlier sims. However, sims like Aston seem to break this rule. The latest (and only) version is 1.0, yet as the sim came out in 2014 I assume it requires the loader. Is there any sure-fire way to identify a sim as loader or pre-loader? I suppose one method might be to give all loader sims a 4.x version number but re-versioning would be tedious and confusing. I feel I'm missing something obvious here. Thanks. Log in to reply |

How about checking the list of .exe files in the Simsig folder on your start menu? If it's an .exe file, then it's not a loader. If it's in the list of sims on the loader, then it's a loader! Simple and obvious. Version numbers are for the actual simulation itself and surely bare no resemblance to whether it is a loader sim or not. Log in to reply |

Following the Wiki update, this page should answer all your questions. :) EDIT: Even simpler, anything released after 02/07/2013 uses the Loader, anything before is .exe "Don't stress/ relax/ let life roll off your backs./ Except for death and paying taxes/ everything in life.../ is only for now." Theres a very easy way. If a Simsig Simulation appears in your Start Menu, then it is not a loader simulation. Simples! :side: Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait! Log in to reply |

" said:Version numbers are for the actual simulation itself and surely bare no resemblance to whether it is a loader sim or not.Version numbers for .exe sims are usually something like 2.227.1.0, in which 2.227 is core code version and 1.0 actual sim version. Loader sims have only sim version number. Log in to reply |

Quote: If it's in the list of sims on the loader, then it's a loader! This assumes one has to load the sim in order to find out whether it's a loader or not. I have not installed all the sims I have downloaded (saving the more difficult ones for later). I would like to know in advance whether a particular version of a sim needs the loader without having to install it first. Out of all the suggestions made so far, Steamer's directing me to the Simulation characteristics page turned out to be the most helpful, as the L and E abbreviations make it easy. This would have been helpful to know. Clearing out old redundant .exe installation files will help you clarify which sims are run as standalone applications. Log in to reply |
