Usually have my head in the Standard when passing in the evening and usually change at FPK on my morning commute but passed through Belle Isle this morning and noticed that the tracks and junction has been fully installed and the OH is well advanced.

Nearly there...... but pity about the impending disaster that will be the Class 700 tube-trains.

The junction was finished at the end of May and we have notices saying the OLE was switched on on 30th June, however that seems a bit unlikely as they're still stringing it up!

Plenty of changes on the way, we hear that 377s (or the new 387s?) will be running half hourly to Kings Lynn by 2017.

According to all the publicity it's gonna be 377 and I'm guessing the 23 377/5.

My impression is that there is most often a nominal 'opening' or 'switch on' date that's somewhat in advance of the real date. The nominal date is the published date and from that point all work has to be done under the protection of the appropriate rules and procedures. So even thought the OHLE isn't there yet, any work done on it requires the procedure for isolation to be gone through (including establishing the limits of any work such that there's no danger of working too close to live equipment). In reality an isolation will be taken at the published time of switch-on; it can then be lengthened to allow work close to the existing OHLE then shortened again for affected lines to re-open to traffic, until such time as it's ready to be given over to the operators and livened up.

So there is method in the apparent madness; I'm pleased to see some things are still being done properly!

What about the recently transferred 377/2s?

Jamie.

Bit of a hobby-horse of mine (in relation to a long-running debate I'm having over the Class 700) but the TSGN Invitation to tender had a provision

"The Department requires a Franchisee who will:
• throughout the Franchise Term, deploy rolling stock on each route served by the Franchise that passengers can reasonably be expected to perceive as being of comparable or better quality than the stock typically in use on the same route at the time of issuing this ITT;"

and FCC have told me that passenger surveys have said that passengers dislike 2+3 seating (and indeed the Cl 700 ITT stipulated 2+2), so that should be a factor in what sub-class 377 is used. I'e it has to compare favourably to the Class 365 (which the Cl 700 does not - in my view).

It also tells all staff to treat the (partial) equipment as live, so that it can be turned on whenever they want for testing purposes without having to send out regular notices every time they want to do this.
