Noted the comments in the manual around the area of control. Originally controlling from Bushey (fringing with Willesden PSB) to Cheddington (fringing with Bletchley PSB), the box's area has been cut back substantially to the area between Bushey and Apsley. This simulation represents its last days as an independent signalbox before it is scheduled to be resignalled and recontrolled from a new panel in Wembley Main Line signalbox. Curious as to the logic of simulating the rationalised/reduced area of control. For example, how might this impact on chaining in the future if a Bletchley simulation is produced? Suspect answer might be that information on the original layout was not available. Log in to reply |

There is a vague idea of two sets of southern WCML sims. Each set would not chain to the other set. The chains would be: 1. Euston-Willesden-WatfordJn(orig)-Bletchley-RugbyPSB 2. WembleyML-WatfordJn(current)-RugbySCC Hence there would be a separate Watford (original) sim for the pre-RugbySCC era. WatfordJn is about 1/3 the size it was originally and has gone through a huge amount of resignalling, re-locking, re-numbering etc so it seemed silly to try to get both eras into one sim. We have a fair bit of data for 1990s Watford but would never say no to more... No promises on any of the above happening though - it's just a rough plan. I do like the sound of having all the original WCML PSB's covered! My Dad was area supervisor at Watford in the early 80's before moving to Bletchley PSB. If you need any information on Bletchley / Watford i can ask him. Regards Ralph Log in to reply |

Having just come across this thread I could not leave well alone, the oldest of the south end boxes opening in 1964. I had many a happy hour in this box as was original with the area of control from South Kenton to Cheddington. The number of ground frames was remarkable as almost every station still had a goods yard and trip working was most interesting, coal traffic to Bushey gas works was one amongst many. The inclusion of the DC line panel was as an added gem and included an early form of ARS though not as we know it now. I look forward to a full Watford scale sim! For the record interlockings were provided at Harrow, Watford, Kings Langley, Boxmoor & Tring, shunt frames at Harrow and Tring, ground frames at Bushey, Kings Langley, Boxmoor, Berkhamstead, Tring and Tring Cutting. The St Albans branch was worked by Watford No3 and the DC by Watford No4 until the 1st stage of the DC line panel, the 2nd stage was when Watford High Street & Croxley Green came out in 1970. I noted this too and the original area covered further south than Bushey. When I worked there as an S&T Engineer (1983-1988) one of our maintenance duties was Harrow north and south junctions. I believe the joining with Willesden PSB was around Kenton / South Kenton. The north end Cheddington is correct. Would love to see Watford (orig) sim if it ever gets produced.
