I've searched for this one in various topics, but I can't seem to find anything on it so I'll post it here.

Various up freight trains stopping at Willesden U&DG1/2 have a loco couple to the front before the continuing to Kensal Green. The loco usually runs from Brent Reception to reverse behind signal 1193 on the Kensal Green up line. However, every loco I've had doing this reversal calls in once it's passed 1193 to say that it's waiting at 672 signal, and its direction in the train list is showing as "Up" (towards Kensal Green). The latest loco to do this is 0L75 (for 4L75).

The loco requires a reversal of direction to "Down" to get it to run from 1193 onto the train in the U&DGL. Is this a bug, or simply a TT issue? It's probably been mentioned somewhere else, and I've missed it.

I believe the loco "thinks" it's standing at harlesden jn (At leats thats what it says in my F2 list). Which for 0L75 is marked as a waiting point 13d29h (perhaps should this place (harlesden jn) be removed, or made a passing point, I don't know). I don't know if this is a bug, or simply a TT issue. I suggest when it arrives at the sig 1193 (which actually is harlesden jn according to F2) just let it run to it's next destination and everything will be fine

Since I posted my first post, I tried reversing 0L75 to face "Down", but it just reversed itself to "Up" and kept waiting. I had to abandon TT and reverse to get it to run up to 4L75.

I 'think' I know why but would like a copy of the save to check before I look like a right plum. Plus details of the route you have used for the train (signal by signal).

Noel, I started up a new sim (from 12:50, just before 0L75 enters), and have run everything at normal speed, and as before.

The attached save file captures the action just after 0L75 has stopped at signal 672. It's still showing as facing "Up" in the F2 list, as reported previously.

As for the route I've sent 0L75, it's as follows:

0L75 enters, then 675 -> 767 -> 787 (arr Brent Rec 2)
0L75 reverses, then 780 -> 772 -> 672 (arr KG reverse)
Set route from 1193 to exit arrow for 783

Over to you ...

I've just tested this, and had no problems.

I used practically the same routing as lazzer, with the only difference being 0L75 using Brent Rec & Dep 1 and 4L75 using Up & Down Goods No.1.

Saved game starts just as 4L75 is arriving in Up & Down Goods No.1.

Immediately after, I routed 0L75 778 > 772 > 672.

As soon as 0L75 was behind 1193, I routed it to the arrow for 781.

After a brief pause 0L75 proceeded onto the front of 4L75 and commenced joining.

Ah!

Set the route from 672 to HL1208 and after a while 0L75 will change direction.

After a brief pause at 1193 it will set off onto the front of 4L75 and join.

Right, I see the problem here. I have always had 672 at danger for doing these loco reversals, because the first time I did it I had a loco call in at 672, reporting an ACoA. I can't remember precisely, but I think I had sent a train Up towards Kensal Green shortly before the loco arrived at the reversing point. Quite why that resulted in an ACoA, I don't know, as 672 would have gone from red to yellow, and not the other way round.

If the loco fits between 672 and 1193, why does it need 672 to be showing a proceed aspect before it will change direection at the reversing point? After all, it's stopped before I set a route from 672 to HL1208.

Very strange.

Does the loco fit between 672/1193, or does it fit on that track circuit? Signal isn't necessarily at the boundary

Well the red line shows that the loco fits between the two signals (and doesn't overhang into the track circuit in advance of 1193 in the Down direction), but we'd need someone in the know to tell us the distance between the two. I can't believe it's less than the length of a loco.

Did anyone manage to work out why signal 672 needs to show a proceed aspect for the loco to reverse at 1193?

Many thanks to all who've contributed to this thread - I was tearing my hair out trying to get light engines to reverse at 1193 to join my trains on U&DG!

Seemed logical to hold sig 672 at red (and turn off auto-clearing) as I feared my light engine might do a 'runner' in the direction of Kensal Green!

Leave sig 672 cleared and LE will reverse as intended - with no intervention.

Problem solved - just worked perfectly with 4L41.

I do have one question though:

I worked in this area in the late 1980s (As a TOPS clerk in a building adjacent to the 'former WN34' signal)

In those days, every up train (mainly Freightliners) from the LMR needed a change of power from electric to diesel in the Willesden area - often to a pair of class 37s onward to Felixstowe etc (in the days before the Anglian area was electrified.

My question is this - why the addition of a diesel in the default timetable? It's not a loco change as original electric stays with train. Wired to Tilbury, Felixstowe etc in this TT era.

Are we simulating the wires being down or some other engineering or is this planned loco working - if so, why?

Brilliant simulation!

On 15th October 2009 (date for default timetable for this, and many other sims), there were a number of diversions of freight along the Gospel Oak - Barking line owing to at the time ongoing LOROL upgrade work to the NLL.
