Sounds like it could be fun. I guess you mean Hull, plus areas North & West thereof?

you could have Gilberdyke box which controls the junction merged with the boxes right through to hull a lot of it is still currently TCB include paragon box, trains alnight shunt between the station and botanic gardens light maintenance shed you would also have the hull docks branch with lines out to saltend, the coal handling terminal, the steel terminal plus various other lines some parts of the docks line are double track some aren't so would need careful regulating, the cricket curve (anlaby road curve) round from the main line onto the Bridlington Branch that part out of paragon - Walton street junction is Bi-di then back to normal the curve back up onto the docks line, then the line out to Bridlington, here you have trains that reverse at Beverley during peak times and also trains continuing onto scarborough the fringe box would be Seamer, which would fringe at Hunmanby.

I do have a lot of information on the signalling along the Hull Line. I have the S&T plans for the Hull Docks Up Grade. A lot has been lost since the 1960s in the Hull it would be good to see the north bank of the Humber as a sim sig simulation. Extend it to Goole and you could link it into the Doncaster PSB sim sig if that ever gets done. There are a lot of Gate Boxes on the line so I could imagine it to be interesting.

I can't help but feel that a Simsig representation of the area would lose most of the attraction and interest of the Absolute Block working (despite the commendable efforts to simulate that within the constraints of the sim), leaving not very much outside the immediate Hull area!

Indeed a lot of the area is TCB but AB between Gilberdyke - Brough East - Melton Lane and Gilberdyke - Saltmarshe, and a lovely mix of colour light and semaphore.

Not much shunting going on between Botanic Gardens these days, it's little more than a carriage washer.

Hessle Road only controls the docks branch as far as the Security Gates, unsure how the area past there is run.

Cricket curve is a new term to me! The Cottingham Branch is much underused (though I have now been around it!).

Indeed there are reversals at Beverley, I used to hate them as it'd mean crossing over to the other platform!

Yes, I've seen how the area has changed from a 4 track mainline (6 in places) down to 2, most of the gate boxes have gone, only Welton, Cave Crossing and Crabley Creek remain. Hull around to Doncaster / Peterborough / King's Cross with an 85 / 77 timetable would be insane!

Hah, an interesting mockup, with a (slight) few issues!

Broomfleet is between Gilberdyke and Hull, though the level crossing (AHB with controls?!) is the correct side.

There's a subtle single slip in the middle, allowing a train to go up through Gilberdyke towards Wressle, then to cross back into the down platform.

Also there's a tamper siding on the up side of Gilberdyke, though I'm unsure if that's seen use of late.

Not bad though!

Crabley Creek's a block post too - certainly some interesting methods of working around there with the short sections (hence my comment above!). I remember enjoying the forward view from a droplight on a charter returning to Hull quite late in the evening, watching the signals (visible for miles) clearing ahead of us - there's certainly plenty there!

Since the 1960s the Hull - Selby Mainline has been decimated following the loss of traffic to and from Hull. This was mainly thanks to development of the UK Motorway network and the Dock workers many strikes from the 1960s to the early 1980s. Around the Hessle Haven area into Hull a small section had 6 roads but two of these was classed as independent lines. From 1966 onwards the 4 Roads from Hull to Gilberdyke Jn was slowly chipped away at. 1969 saw Broomfleet to Brough reduced to two roads, 1972 Hessle Ferriby 4 down to 2 and 1977 Brough to Ferriby (Melton Lane) 4 down to 2 and the last section Gilberdyke to Broomfleet 1988 4 down to 2! The Hull Docks Baranch (Former Hull and Barnsley Mainline) had MAS installed in 1968 comissioned over the August Bank Holiday this was worked under TCB (Goods) arrangements I.E. no overlaps on the signals. The boxes on the Docks Alexandra, Holdnerness Drain North and King George Dock closed in 1974 and 1974 and Hessle Road Jn Box worked TCB to both locations and when they shut from Bridges Jn these locations was worked as long sidings. The docks branch itself was singled in 1988 when TCB Regulations was in force to Sculcoates Goods Jn when OTW regulations took over. From 1997 a divisible train staff was installed with 4 segments (Like Tyne Dock is worked now) and 2010 a partial re doubling was carried out and TCB regulations are in force all the way from Hessle Road Jn to the Dock Shunters Cabin. Hull Pargon its self 1984 was effectively cut in half when the station was reduced in size and a new panel was placed in Pargon box replacing the 1938 OCS panel. The line is Hull of Level Crossing CCTV, MCB, User worked, Gates worked by hand and gates released from signal boxes it has a good mixture combined with some short section working. One good question for Drivers Learning the road to Hull is B14 signal at Broomfleet how many levers need to be pulled to get a green in it!

Wow, didn't realise there was still refuelling done there!

Yeah, I've done TPE and Hull Trains plenty of time, are you local to the area?

yea centre of hull and the docks line runs past the living room window (dads a train driver who signs paragon and the brid line) also have a lot of railway staff friends, a third siding has been installed in the last year at botanic gardens not used yet though.

I believe the LNER used to refer to goods (and in some cases perhaps even slow) lines as 'Independent' lines, so perhaps this was a hangover from that period.

I think that the LNER inherited them from the NER, pretty sure it predates the big 4.

Makes a lot of sense, the NER had a strong influence on the LNER, I believe.
