RTT has a 20.50 Acton TC - Euston.

According to WTT CY16, its headcode is 2S74.

From Euston it then goes to Amersham.

I'm assuming this is a departmental train, but does anyone know what it is?

It's certainly not going to Amersham tonight!

In terms of Sandite, the headcode is similar to 3S74 which is one of the headcodes given to Chiltern Railways Class 117 Unit which carries out water jetting and Sandite duties and passes over LU metals during the leaf-fall season. But even if this was the same train (unlikely) they are not due to start running until 5th October.

Though if the train is going to run for most of the Autumn, then the schedule is likely to have been put in to the WTT and only used on days when the train actually runs.

RHTT paths have been shown every day since the May timetable change on Real Time Trains.

Having seen the LUL schedules for the leaf-fall period, we are still "hosting" RHTTs with 3xxx series headcodes, so even if this was one of the paths, it is carrying the wrong headcode. The Chiltern unit usually runs with 3S7x whilst the Network Rail trains use 3Jxx.

NR run a number of 3S** and 3J** trains, and there once was a rumour or something that the 'S' stood for 'Sandite' and 'J' was for a Water-'Jetter'. I don't know if this was ever true or if it still is.

NB: Over the Autumn period, 3S9* is a Sussex RHTT & 3S7* is a Kent RHTT. The headcodes change 8Y** with the same TT paths during winter when they are used on de-icing duties.

Actually the paths are totally different as the winter anti-icers (8Yxx) are timed at 30mph whereas the Sandites are timed at 60.

They never are. And that explains why the 8Y**'s always run late!

More or less fits - the Chiltern DMU doesn't have much of a jetting system and concentrates on sandite (when it works) whereas the larger NR RHTTs lay sandite and jet (on more than one occasion they have jetted away signalling equipment!)
