Thanks go to Paul Curran for producing the new Portsmouth simulation. Though a relatively small area, this box gets quite busy with regular passenger trains as well as empties to and from the depot. Enjoy!

Hi Geoff and Paul Thanks for another excellent Sim, already having a tinker with it (I really should be doing something else right now!) Just one small thing, it's not immediately obvious what the slots Fratton (C/E) and Fratton (L/E) are, although I think I've worked this out. Any chance of writing the abbreviation into the Manual? The slots are already driving me mad, excellent stuff Andrew Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait! Log in to reply |

Geoff & Paul, Thanks for another sim to play with, again on an area I have travelled through when working: not been to Portsmouth by train for a couple of years so good to see things from a different - if not uptodate - angle. Cheers, Dave Last edited: 14/10/2014 at 21:35 by DaveHarries Log in to reply |

I have some data from 2013 and 2002. Really tempted to do timetables for both (with amendments made to 2013 as Southsea Low Level has different platform lengths to now - 12 cars won't fit )

Can I add my thanks. For such a small area, it keeps you on your toes - who's booked first through which junction really needs keeping an eye on. I very nearly left an express fuming behind a stopper at Bedhampton! Mike Log in to reply The following user said thank you: DriverCurran |

I've already made the mistake of putting a Southsea terminator in P2 :doh , blocking everything! Careful studying of the TT may be needed in future... Log in to reply |

First impressions are I really like this but how do I get the slots etc. I have the first train (5U30) I think come out of Fratton but it needs to go back in and I can work it out. That part is confusing me and frustrating me and I know its going to be something simple!!

You need to ring up the yard shunter, via the F6 menu, to request the slot, however make sure that you will be in a position to set the route within two minutes as per this from the manual...... "In real life these slots will self cancel after 30 seconds if the signaller does not set the route into the respective yard, however in the simulation this time has been extended to cancel the slot after two minutes." Just bought this sim, and to add to previous comments, for a small area there are going to be lots of things to watch out for. I'm admitting to being a bit stuck already with 5E18. It seems to enter twice, at Fratton CSD and Staff Halt but needs to head towards Cosham. Do I need to reverse it somewhere from the Back Road. Any suggestions on routing will be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks. Mal. Log in to reply |

Mal The correct routing is from Fratton Depot (*2) out onto the Back Road or Down Relief (The Southsea Back Road location is coded for both) then back into the exit marked *3 (Fratton Reception). The train will then be re-presented by the shunter to appear at PW131 signal. Great Sim, my home Sim. I'm not sure about the shunt from the shed to the reception roads and vice versa, i'm sure it's all controlled by Fratton Groundframe, unless that is post PARS. What we need now is a 1980's Timetable {Platform 2 at the Harbour option for the Sim?} with all the loco hauled trains to/from Bristol. The shed pilot going over the Harbour to collect/deliver coaching stock. Paper trains into Southsea low level. Fuel trains for the yard. Maybe visiting excursions? It's certainly interesting to see what a nightmare Fratton was before the ReSignalling, with no way to reverse on the Downs. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: DriverCurran |
