Had this a few times now. When scrolling horizontally the scroll bar turns black and the sim stops working and the only way to fix is to force close and restart.

Seems to happen at random. Screen shot to show the effect.

Anyone else or just me?

It used to happen to me but hasn't for a good while now - generally it was only an issue if I used dragged the scroll bar; using my mouse wheel or the hotkeys was never a problem.

No mouse wheel here (laptop user) so I always use the scroll bar so I guess I'm susceptible.

It did happen a lot for me at one time. Have you checked you have the latest loader - not sure what the release number is.

I had a similar problem with Exeter sim if I missed the scrollbar sliders and clicked on scroll arrows or or scrollbar background. Found that it only happened when not connected to internet. So far while connected have had no further problems.

I can't reproduce the bug but have spotted that if you scroll over to the far right, and then click and hold on the scroll bar on the far left (not the slider itself), then the scroll bar turns black while scrolling.

So I suspect it is related to scrolling in this fashion. Like mothman I suspect if happens if you miss the scroll bar slightly.

I recall this used to happen to me quite frequently though I forget which sim or version it was.

Carlisle (exe) has now crashed twice on me today, first when using the left/right arrow keys to scroll and secondly just now when I clicked on a signal to set a route it stopped responding.

Highly frustrating.

Most odd. I hesitate to suggest this as it seems a bit slopey shoulders, but have you all got updated mouse and graphics card drivers? The fact that (a) Peter Bennett had it at one time but not later when the code behind scrolling hasn't been touched in years; (b) only a few people have reported this out of the high hundreds of users; suggests it could be something external to the Loader, ie drivers.

Mouse is updated.
Graphic Card 344.48 (Beta) for GeForce GT430. (Maybe this one faulty)

I'll test on my old Desktop (XP with GeForce 8400 GS with stable drivers).

Thanks for the suggestion Geoff.

Infact I had it while I was away on holiday this week but I rebooted my computer and all was well again. I do tend to hibernate nightly for weeks on end and that does screw it up a bit I find. There is an issue I found with f4 while running at high-speed but that resolves itself after a short while.

As I said in the ticket report, this is simply due to your machine trying to do too much at too high a speed, so it can't process all the messages it gets (not a problem on certain other operating systems but I digress).

Peter can you just clarify what the issue is? I've had an issue a number of times, including i'm sure as a multiplay client where the speed suddenly changes to full speed randomly without even touching F4.

Are you knocking the "F" key that will ramp the speed up to full.

Peter - quite possibly.

Since Carlisle just crashed on me for a forth time today I had a look at my drivers and there was nothing which needed updating.

I'd also like to comment that while some of the crashes for myself and others have been scrolling-related, I've found that it's not exclusive. For example it's occurred to me when I've tried to set routes or unpause the game.

In his report we eventually worked out it was because he specifically set the simulation running at maximum speed, too fast for his machine.

Again, routesetting or even unpausing involves graphics. Obviously if it was a fundamental problem such a high frequency event like routesetting then there'd a rather large number of unhappy campers!

Not on a multiplay client it won't. The client's speed is set by the host.

If it helps, I've also experienced this, albeit on and off, for as long as I can remember, and other people have reported it in multiplayer games too.
I can remember being advised by a player that there was a fix: "don't click there." Easier said than done!

Interesting that you mention it; I'm having similar issues with Wembley Mainline spontaneously crashing. Though I'm wondering whether it may have been a conflict with some other software as it hasn't happened since I uninstalled it (too early to say for sure, though).

This afternoon, NE Scot has been the culprit in repeatedly crashing. Shot in the dark here, could it be a processor issue?

That's an .exe so self-contained to the release date rather than subject to any changes that may have been made to the loader.exe over time.

After a not-particularly-exhaustive testing process, I have had no further freezes since uninstalling Spybot Search and Destroy. YMMV.

I don't know whether this is relevant, but something which I have encountered once or twice before has just recurred.

Whilst playing Wembley Mainline and watching a few youTube videos, the sim has locked up and is 'not responding'.

Task Manager shows the sim using 50% CPU usage.

Closing everything down apart from the sim has no effect, and the sim has to be forced to close.

Possibly not relevant but it may be another avenue for people to explore if they are having freezing problems.

I have a legacy system (2007 laptop running XP SP3). I haven't had any problems with SimSig but I've had a number of problems with other programs becoming memory or CPU hogs for no apparent reason and then only able to be closed via the Program Manager. On other occasions the whole computer would freeze for about 2 minutes before normal service was resumed. After lots of trial and error I eventually tracked it down to some sort of internal conflicts with Avast Free Anti-Virus. Replaced Avast with Avira Free and I've had no more freezing or CPU hogging problems.

Hi all,
Awakening this thread again as this has started on my computer today - again Carlisle the issue - especially when trying to scroll vertically. Doesn't happen on any other sims, and has never happened before. Not running any new software, have used this PC for a couple of years with no sim issues like this.
Any new ideads?
