It's usually not that hard (at least in SimSig ;)), you just have to turn off the auto route setting on the next controlled signal, and only ever set the route when you're sure there won't be any adverse changes of aspect. I think last time I asked here, the consensus was that IRL actual signal light failures (rather than failures of the proving equipment itself) is rare because signals usually have spare filaments, etc. Maybe I'm misremembering though. They don't happen that often, but it is certainly not uncommon.

" said:Most of the (non-transit) North American circuits I've looked at recently have light-out protection of some kind. e.g. loosing the marker on a B&O clear downgrades it to Slow clear - so the signal in approach gets downgraded to approach slow... LIRR capital signal contracts include a table of light-out scenarios with specified downgrades in approach to them. Log in to reply |

When the floods stranded a HST, down south, the driver had no communication whatsoever. The colour-light signal was showing nothing, the SPT was not working, the driver's phone had no signal. The driver could not communicate with any part of NR! What should the driver do? I know the answer, as it's simple.
