I decided to mock up a layout this morning.

This is Peak Rail - a heritage railway in Derbyshire. A couple of years ago, it opened an extension onto Network Rail's Matlock station.

In this layout, there are 6 workstations, 3 of which can be manned.

  • Rowsley - A non-manned workstation. There are two entry points: Loco Shed and Sidings. This workstations is fully automatic (in reality, worked by groundframes)

  • Church Lane Crossing - a manned crossing box. You control three signals, one set of points and a level crossing.

  • Darley Dale - a manned box. You control three signals, a set of points, a level crossing and a groundframe into the South Sidings. The North Sidings were removed in 2013 and no longer appear on the layout.

  • Matlock Riverside - a manned junction. This box can be switched out, leaving the default route from Darley Dale to Matlock. You control seven signals. Access into Matlock Riverside station usually occurs if Network Rail disallow access to Matlock. So far, this has not happened, and therefore the station is OOU.

  • Matlock - part of Derby IECC. You have no control over this section. There is a Network rail controlled groundframe at the north end of Matlock station, which allows them access to the siding, and the line to Peak Rail. Normally, the points are set to allow Peak Rail trains access to Platform 2.

I hope you like this (slightly inaccurate) layout.
