Hi all Are there any plans to update the old Euston layout to a Loader sim? There are a few bugs on the old sim which have been discussed in various threads, which I won't go into too much detail about here (shunt moves setting off the train running away alarm, following moves out of the up shed throwing 53 signal back in the first driver's face, etc). The thing I'd most ask for is to include an option to play with A buttons on signals in the Park Street Tunnels and Camden Junctions, simply to save my wrist and clicking finger from an early demise! If I had it my way, every signal on the fast and slow lines (both up and down) would have the A buttons on them to give the option of auto straight routes to and from Willesden, plus 148 on the new lines, 82 on UEL2 and 72 on the DD. Maybe excepting 146 and 149 on the up slow. IF I had it my way... Log in to reply |

Pretty sure clive at one point confirmed he would indeed be continuing work on the old Euston sim, time permitting. Since I'm not him, I don't know what his priorities are of course, sim-wise, but it's not been abandoned! (I personally think that Euston could probably do with a refresh, but that there are sims that more pressingly need one than it, even though Euston is one of my personal favourites at least for free sims, perhaps even for all sims!) Ah, that is good news. I've sunk so many hours into the busy timetables. It's perfect when you want to be kept on your toes but aren't in the mood to keep an eye on half the universe like Kings Cross. Glad to hear it's not dead and buried! Log in to reply |

" said:" said:Hi allYes, but don't expect to see it this year. Indeed. Not only were there two panel positions, but after a number of nervous breakdowns in the early days (tales of signalmen waking in the night working Euston panel on their bedroom wall) the box was rostered for three signalmen on earlies and lates. The Station End man would be relieved after 4 hours by the Camden End man, who would in turn be relieved by the spare man. It didn't help that the EP point machines were pretty much instantaneous in operation; I fancy Clive has reduced the operation time of the points in the sim, but they're still remarkably slow compared with the real thing (you'd be (un)lucky if the OOC flashed twice as the route called). It also didn't help that there was no comprehensive approach locking (unlike the SSI-like operation simulated); once a signal cleared you had a 2-minute timeout no matter what, which could cause massive problems in the peak. The combination of those two features ensured it was a high-stress job. To put it mildly. Log in to reply |

Don't forget it's now part of the Wembley Main Line sim. So Flabberdacks you work at Auburn?

Two completely different eras. WM replaced Euston Panel in reality, and there is far too much of a difference for an era option in the sim. I think GeoffM posted something along those lines at some point in the past on here so it may be worth a search. You can play Euston single-handed, but WM would be a struggle. Log in to reply |

" said:" said:Don't forget it's now part of the Wembley Main Line sim. Not really. The current Euston layout caters very poorly for loco hauled trains. Once Euston is updated I intend to update the 1980 timetable in line with current loader standards, and also make some further additions and ammendments. Don't get me wrong about Old Euston I really like it. The new Euston is just different and that's good too. How much fun is it to be able to travel back in time to old timetables and signalling just like Dr Who? Happy New Year Everyone.

She'll be closed for good in six months or so, they say.No worries, this is the response I thought I'd get. Figured it was worth a shot considering there are other realism options there like the additional TD berths. Got no problem with the traffic density, it's just painful to click those signals all the time. Thanks! Log in to reply |

I just reset the signals to green after every train arrives or departs, rather the waiting for the next train.

" said:I just reset the signals to green after every train arrives or departs, rather the waiting for the next train.Yeah, this was the basis for my original question, most of those sticks are sitting at clear whether there's a train coming or not for the majority of the sim, just to help manage the workload. Basically behaving like autos. Log in to reply |

I wonder if these signals at Euston had Auto buttons (controls) in real life. It's a shame to see the beautiful and impressive Auburn signal box diagram butchered by the Signal engineers. Log in to reply |

I have no doubt that the Euston sim would be correct.

If I remember correctly, Euston was built fairly early on in the development of the NX technology. Did other boxes built in its era have automatic re-clear functions for controlled signals? I wonder if that came in later on, hence the confusing omission.
