Round Oak spur - how is it worked? 06/01/2015 at 12:24 #67428

Hi,

I was flicking through RTT today as I sometimes do and I noted that a train for Round Oak was held at Kingswinford Jn whilst another train left.

my mum still lives about 200 yards from the junction. I specifically remember seeing trains being held to allow others out.

Now, I also know from being local that the line is double tracked all the way from Stour North Jn to th steel terminal itself.

So does anyone know why, seeing as how there are two lines, trains are held? Is there a one train in steam principle? (I don't think there's a signal beyond Kingswinford Jn anymore)

Cheers

Yes, the sectional appendix and rules of the route denote it as One Train Working with Train Staff.

Sorry to dig up my old thread.

I was at home on Sunday and noted that there's now a position light signal on a post facing the Stourbridge direction on the Stour bound line (ie the "wrong" way).

Previously there was a stop board, and before that a semaphore (which signalled the correct direction as I remember).

I know the Pensnett line is long mothballed (although I remember it when it wasn't overgrown) and am also aware that the old Steel terminal on Moor Street is very occasionally used for stone trains, and thanks to Danny im also aware that the line is One Tran Working...

But the requirement for a position light signal to permit entry doesn't make sense - trains wouldn't need to reverse as I remember as there's enough lines to shunt around on.

Any ideas about this installation? Was it part of works for reopening the line from Walsall that they got on with despite such plan now unlikely to occur? Or is it simpler...?

Any responses would be very much appreciated.
