I was experimenting a little with the Increment On Transfer checkbox in the timetable, but I was unable to get it to do anything sensible. I created two timetables for Exeter and Westbury, containing two trains each, which differ just in the Increment on transfer option. However, when the trains ran over to the other sim, no difference in behavior was seen - the ID of the train was just the same as on the first sim, and the timetable was seemingly picked up as anything that matched the first 4 characters of the headcode.

I'd like to ask then when and if should this option be used? And should it increment the headcode on leaving the sim (as opposed to entering), which has this option ticked in the timetable? And, do any timetables use it?

This was what it was supposed to do:

Timetables now have a checkbox - increment on transfer. If this is ticked, and the transferring train is running to a timetable, then the last character of the ID is incremented, wrapping if necessary.

Examples:
1A01-A becomes 1A01-B
2B02-5 becomes 2B02-6
3C56-Z becomes 3C56-A
9Z99 becomes 9Z90 (because only the last character is considered)


But I could not get it to work properly, UIDs have largely superseded in any event.

So it probably never worked?

And to UIDs, how do UIDs solve the case when one train with one headcode/timetable enters the sim twice/thrice (or how does the sim pick up the correct timetable)? Think Ivybridge - Exeter - Westbury - Bristol - Taunton for example.

The sim picks the nearest TT time wise which has the same UID as the train entering the sim. The headcode makes no difference if the UID is used

Just went back to my test sandbox sims and if TT has same UID throughout then it works as expected. Also if train goes Sim1>Sim2>Sim1 you can have 1A00/$1A00A then 1A00/$1A00B and finally 1A00/$1A00B and that also works.

There is residual problem with ARS and the ARS not reading the correct TT data even though the TT pop-up is correct- that can be fixed by pressing I>OK - i.e. refreshing the TD.

Wimbledon and Feltham have circular trains so a train will leave Waterloo and return to same with the same headcode and UID. The sim looks at the train's entry point amongst other things to try to determine which timetable to use when handed a train from a chained sim.

In certain cases, yes. Obviously not always otherwise Wimbledon would be an utter nightmare to operate.

So if 1A23 is transferring from sim A to sim B and has the flag set in sim A, then sim B is told that 1A24 is entering. As various people have said, UIDs will override this in finding the train. Also, if the train then goes from sim B to sim C (or back to sim A), then it will only increment again if the timetable in sim B had the flag set.

So why didn't it work in my test on Exeter & Westbury with the timetables provided in the original post?
