This is the last train of the TT, departing Fairwater Yard at 24:06 for Wellington.

Description:
Quote:
6Z92 is an engineers' train, "going to a possession" at Wellington. This train should not be allowed past Norton Fitzwarren until the last Down train of the day has passed- this is 1C31 if everything is running to time.
I admit this didn't mean much to me - after all, class 6 suggests a goods train but there is no siding at Wellington. It's certainly not Cider Siding. "Going to a possession" I think means going to do some track maintenance on the Down Main line. Why I had to clear it past S322, even after a route was set for it, I'll never understand. However, in the end it stopped all by itself at S32 on the Down Main.

I thought I'd post this for the benefit of anyone else who is equally puzzled by the jargon.

Yeah, an engineers train is quite often a goods train, but one carrying goods for railway engineering works, eg ballast. 'Going to a possession' indeed means going to a site of track maintenance, eg to supply ballast to the area.

By 'clear it past S322' do you mean authorise it to pass at danger? There should be no need for this, the signal clears when a route is set to 324 and Silk Mill LC is down.

...which in the era this timetable is set (2014) had been replaced by a bridge and the LC can be left down permamently to simulate this. (Someone should add this to the manual...oh hang on!)

Interesting! I noticed that when I selected this Timetable for an 04:45 start, the Start Time box did not update to 04:45. Can anybody confirm this problem?

I forgot to set the start time on the original version (1.0), but fixed it on all later versions. Box updates correctly on V2.0.

Yes, I always set Silk Mill LC to down when I start an Exeter TT. I did have to authorize it in this case to pass 322 at danger, which surprised me. I'll try to duplicate this if I get the time, and post a game.

Going to a possession at Wellington can mean one of two things. Either the train is going into a possession, in which case the signaller will have to instruct the driver to pass the signal protecting the possession at danger when he has received permission from the PICOP to do so (for Simsig purposes it can be assumed that the signaller has the PICOP,s permission) or that the train will be stopped at a designated signal and then the possession will be taken round the train. An Engineer,s train is an Engineer,s train and not a Goods Train. Being a Class 6 does not automatically make it a goods train. I tend to use the term "Freight train", "Goods Train" being somewhat old fashioned these days.
