Unable to save rules/timetables 20/01/2015 at 16:17 #68179

The problem seems to be that the location of the saved timetables is different to the original timetables. When I start a new simulation I see a list of available Timetables which I have in a folder at data/SimSig/SimSig. But when I save a timetable I cannot see the list that is in that folder. If I save a timetable with a new name and start a new simulation then that is not listed with the others. I have tried moving the saved timetable to the timetable folder but then all the rules vanished.
In the saved timetable window it says it is being saved to data/SimSig/sheffield but I cannot find it. I,m finding myself at a loss as how to go from here. If I try using a different timetable, create a rule, save it to that timetable and restart that timetable, the rule is not there.

I think you've got locations mixed mixed up between loader sims and .EXE sims and are thus loading and saving the TT from completely the wrong location. The location you mention is where the loader sims would save their TT's but Sheffield is not a loader sim so it not looking in that location. It's looking somewhere else.

The TT's for Sheffield need to go in a "Sheffield" subfolder within the main SimSig folder. By default this is C:\Program Files (x86)\SimSig (may be different on your machine if you installed it to a custom location).

There is some information here about where TT's should go (see the Adding Timetables section).

I moved my Simsig folder from X86 to "Data". When you open it there are my Loader files and a 2nd folder called "SimSig" Inside that are all my non-loader sims such as Royston, Cambridge, Sheffield etc!. There are also folders for each Sim containing the pictures and the timetables. So the "Sheffield" folder contains the Sheffield timetables but any timetables I save appear to go here when I check the "save timetable" window but I cannot find them. Certainly the list of Timetables for a new game and the list contained in the "saved timetables" are different. This seems to sugest that you are correct when you say that the saved games go to a different location but I cannot find it.
The timetables for my Loader sims are in my documents section.

Have you tried a search for *.WTT created in the last 24 hours? This may help you pinpoint the location.

It sounds dumb but.. how do you do that? I have just tried creating the timetable I am working on under a completely new name and saving it to the Sheffield folder but it does not appear there. I then dragged it to the folder and I can start a new game with it but all the rules have disappeared.

Taking a break but I have an idea The Timetables are in Data/SimSig/SimSig/sheffield but the timetables are saving to Data/SimSig/Sheffield. Maybe that is what is screwing it up? I could either seperate the two folders (one is for the loader & one is for the other sims or try to add "SimSig" to the saved timetables location.
Addition. Having moved Simsig back to X8X I can now save a timetable to that location. The only snag is I have lost the saved game with the rules that I need

Where is your Sheffield.exe file? Normally, the older exe sims look for TTs in a sub-folder of the folder where they live (so if sheffield.exe is in your data/SimSig folder it would look in a data/SimSig/sheffield folder).

The loader sims use a different structure where the .sim files live in a simulations sub-folder in your SimSig folder and the timetables in a timetables sub-folder under the same SimSig folder.

Hope that makes sense.

I'm still running XP and there is a "Search" option on the start button. Probably something similar on Windows 7, but I've no idea about Windows 8.

Under the old exe regime, the rules are contained in a file "*.WTR", so you just need to drag the matching WTR file acroos to join its other half (ie the TT has a pair of files Name.WTT & Name.WTR).

After moving Simsig non loader file back to X86 I can now save the Timetable and I also got my missing rules back. The only thing I have lost is the saved game I was using to work on the timetable. Perhaps I should quit while I,m ahead. i have no idea where it went wrong, but I have also been working on Royston without any issues. Thank you all for your responses

If you open 'My Computer' and search for the file name of the save, you should be able to retrieve it and stick it in the right place. If you know it's in a certain area (e.g. a subfolder of 'Public Documents'), searching from there will speed things up.
