I've just been playing on the new Scalable IECC. It seems funny that Simsig came up with scrolly sims before the UK rail industry did.

On the new IECC's you can zoom in and out, signallers can save their favourite views, most items of equipment have right click menus and you can add Sticky notes (Maxand will be pleased).

So which of the Scalable IECC software engineers is a SimSigger?

I would not be surprised if designing this type of equipment if the software engineers did not look at the likes of SimSig for ideas.

Delighted to read this.

You see? It's not too difficult for those working in the real world to appreciate the benefits of improved usability.

Before very long, SimSig may find itself forced to upgrade its own code just to remain "authentic", hee hee.

Maybe I should submit some of my earlier requests directly to those writing the scalable IECC.

The difficult we do today. The impossible takes a little longer.

The only people able to "play" it are the engineers who are designing and testing it (FF being one of them) and the signallers at TVSC who will ultimately operate it.

I presume the answer would be, “A job with Network Rail.”

How about looking at what section this thread is in before asking unnecessary questions.

It certainly looks good!

Just need stickys to be scrollable/non scrollabe then (attached to screen view/ attached to layout) now......

The motorway control room system I once saw was very similar, overview that could be zoomed in to show individual signal gantries and even to any messages displayed - back in the 1980s at Heston.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Very interesting. I take it this is just on DeltaRail's workbench or has it actually been commissioned somewhere...?

Are the 1980's signaling graphics ever going to get an update?

What constitutes and "update" in your eyes?

No, the displays are fine the way they are. Thanks for your concern though.

Why would they? They're functional, not a Van Gogh. What do you want - 3d graphics, shading, animations...?

From having personally visited US dispatching centres, they're functional with simple colours too. In fact, same for all the sites I've had the pleasure of visiting around the world.

And I dare say just about any industrial control system is pretty similar, from what I've seen.

Actually it does look like they did update the graphics. The images weren't loading for me earlier. Nice to see some actual fonts in place of ASCII text.

I'm prepared to bet that the system uses text encoding that is ASCII-compatible in its low 7 bits at least. I suspect "ASCII text" doesn't mean what you think it means.

You probably meant: "Nice to see some vector fonts in place of bitmap fonts."

Scalable goes live at Marylebone on Sat 21st March. Will immediately be used to good effect as it will be live on the "south" workstation but take control of Mantles Wood to Aylesbury / AVP which would otherwise be out of action while they work on the north workstation.
