Afternoon all, I was curious as to whether anyone had a copy of the working timetable pre-2007, showing Eurostar movements through the VSE control area? If anyone has, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Log in to reply |

I rode the Eurostar back in 1994 or 1995 and I remember it being abysmally slow as we crawled out of the London commuting district. Were those trains scheduled behind locals or was the line speed on the order of 60mph?

Out of interest, does anything use the link between Fawkham Jn and Southfleet Jn any more?
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway. Log in to reply |

I imagine pathing was also an issue, as the service frequency down there would make it impossible to give a non-stop service a proper run. Obviously you could have been delayed for some reason but generally the Eurostars were flighted (2 trains 5 minutes apart) to try to get a clear run, with local trains being looped to let them past. That is if we can find a driver that now signs the track between at least Swanley and Southfleet Junction Paul You have to get a red before you can get any other colour Log in to reply |

Definitely... first Eurostar trip we did, I took a few timings and was greatly surprised at the speeds we were making. And that was after having had the same experience years before when HSTs and MkIIIs first came on the scene. The Eurostar ride only becomes noticeably interesting at speeds higher than you'll get on the classic system, up to about 140mph it's difficult to appreciate how fast you're going by observation or feel. I don't know what the margin was but if you were X minutes late then you lost your slot and had to deal with whatever was on time that should have been behind you but was now in front. Back to the original question, does anyone have timetables from this period showing workings?
