You need to set a route from the greyed out signal in order to release the slot. I know, it's a bit counterintuitive when you've played other sims!

I've added a note to the panels page in the manual.

As the 'Panel Overview' page contains all the operational info, is there a need for a separate Simulation Operation page, or should I move the operational notes from Panwl Overview into the Simulation Operation section?

Speaking personally, I would like the Simulation Operation page, or some other suitably titled page to give a full listing of signal routes. i.e. Signal 338 applies to Signal 477, Signal 1065 (GPS) etc. in a tabular format. I think that a page like this would be of benefit to all current and future simulations too.
