How have you addressed the issue of the lower line speeds on the sim (110 vice what could potentially now be 125)? The EMT services are timed to do the higher line speeds now.

They are but unless I'm otherwise mistaken, the sim itself also needs updating to reflect this. Otherwise you'll get fast trains running late all the time.

In that case the timetable, not that I don't appreciate its creation, is a bit useless then surely?

15mph isn't going to make a whole lot of difference tbh - the journey time saving all the way to Sheffield is in the single digits with all the upgrades along the MML

To put a little bit of perspective onto it, Sharnbrook Jn at the northern end of the sim is 56m. 52ch. from St. Pancras. The latest published version (2009) of Table A to the Sectional Appendix shows that 42m.0ch. of that distance is show as having a 110mph restriction. There cannot be a definitive answer without knowing whether any of the speed restrictions below 110mph have been raised to 125mph. However, if we assume that trains run only of the Fast lines and the following conditions apply


  • only the 110mph restrictions have been raised to 125mph

  • that none of the sub110mph speed restrictions have been raised since Table A was released

  • that there is no time penalty while a train accelerates to the new speed or decelerates to enter a restricted section



then the total time penalty between St. Pancras and Sharnbrook Jn. would be about 2 3/4 minutes.

Given the assumptions that were made to create those numbers it is likely that the difference would be less than that.

Maybe the "bit useless" comment needs to be tempered by a short dose of fact.

Great to see a new timetable, and that you have put so much time it to produce it! I'll try it out now. Do you think the new line speeds are an issue?

2-3 mins shouldnt be an issue. I would imagine theres some engineering allowance given somwhere between Pancras and Sharnbrook.

yes i don't think 2 or 3 min will make much difference. I am currently ½ way thru playing WH and I have managed to loose 2839 minutes, but recovered 14,255 and I haven't even reached the evening peak yet. Looking forward to attempting the new timetable.

Any particular reason why there is so much negativity in this thread? Not terribly impressed with how some people have chosen to discuss this new timetable... :angry:

I played the timetable through a couple of times prior to its release, and I did not observe any EMT's losing time. Has anybody else?

Those who use the WH sim knowns that almost 90% of the EMT trains arrive at St. Pancras 2/3/4/5 minutes early due to Allowances and the makeup time on the Timetable. That's a fact that WH sim needs a fix to upgrade speed limits, but we don't need to be so rude on that fact, as we all know the policy of SimSig, just sit and wait, probably will come soon.

Thanks for the hard work on the Timetable John, looking forward to use this.

I'm about a third of the way through it, and haven't noticed any delays caused by line speed issues. Now, regulation errors by yours truly - that's a different kettle of fish! Changing as appropriate between fast and slow lines makes my brain hurt! But whatever, having great fun with this timetable!

Sheffield fasts would be about 2 down approaching Sharnbrook. The time saving from the higher linespeeds is around 3 minutes, and most fasts have 1 minute engineering time between London and Sheffield. Still great this timetable has been released, and it's appreciated, I just hope the 125mph linespeeds are taken into account in a future update of the sim.

Good point, allowances swallowing a fair chunk of any potential delays.

RE upgrades, yes eventually. It's just that it is not just linespeed upgrades: a fair amount of signalling was altered too (more flashing yellows, extra crossovers and signals, more banner repeaters - and, of course, the Farringdon branch resignalling).

Small amendment to this timetable required (unless I have stuffed something up)

Time table:
West Hampstead SX 2015
West Hampstead 2015 (00.00) (v.1) (v1.9) (v4.3.2)


5G93 enters @ 0246 from Bedford CS(1-9) to Plat 1 at Bedford
5M80 enters @ 0247 from Bedford CS(1-9) to Plat 1 at Bedford (departing first)

Plat 2 is occupied (2W82/5G82 0255/0308)

5M80 will not clear the P924B points with 5G93 stopping at the default position.

Amending the timetable to make 5G93 stop at the Far end fixed the problem.

Thanks John for the hard work (only 3 hrs into this)

The mistake I have made there is 5G93 should continue into the North Siding arriving there at 02.51, departing at 03.02 and arriving back in platform 1 at to 03.04 to form 2W93.

Just noticed that train 1W24 after crossing from DS to DF at West Hampstead South junction fouls the points while stopped at Platform 4

Can't say that I noticed this whilst testing the timetable, as I always cross down trains at Carlton Road, but you're right, 12/377 (246m) will foul the crossover.

More unusualy, when I crossed the same train at Carlton Road it passed the starter signal and overhung at the south end.
