Hi all, I have recently installed SimSig on my Ubuntu partition via Wine. Apart from issues with the XML F2 screen, the sims seem to be working really well. However, I am currently having issues with licences. I have deallocated all the licences I have purchased from my Windows 8 partition and allocated them to the Ubuntu partition. However, when I start a loader sim for which I have a licence (LTS, for example), I am told that my licence is unsuitable and that demo mode has been activated for a few minutes. I have licences for some of the McSims (Edinburgh, Central Scotland, North East Scotland and Cowlairs) and these are working correctly (i.e. the full simulation loads). Any thoughts? I have created a ‘SimSig’ folder in ‘users/Public/Documents’ and created a ‘Common.cfg’ file inside it manually in an attempt to solve the issue. Log in to reply |

I don’t know why you’d be having this problem, but I use Wine and I just tried running Marylebone and had no problem with my license. So, it is possible to use Wine with the loader and payware sims.

I was sure that would be the case. I wonder if the Wine version has something to do with it. Out of interest, what Wine version are you using? I appear to be using 1.6.2.

Hmm…interesting… I have tried again this morning with some different results. Starting the loader brought up the same issue, so I started the licence manager to try and deallocate/reallocate the licences one more time (Einstein: “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” – he obviously didn’t work with Linux!). The licence manager popped up a message saying it was syncing the licences. This had happened many times before, but previously each licence synced individually – this time it was one message for them all. Thinking this was weird, I reloaded the loader and now the sims load without demo mode activating. ‘Common.cfg’ has now been populated with licence hashes. Unfortunately I cannot explain what has happened other than I have shut down the system and restarted it in the mean time. Just thought I’d let people know for completeness’s sake! Log in to reply |

The newer has the one message for all. SimSig Boss Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Gwasanaethau |

Looks like you’ve got it sorted out (if only by random poking), but 1.7.39, if you’re interested.
