I have 5W76 ready for departure from Bletchley CS into the occupied platform 5 (5Z99). I have tried to set the warner route to allow the train to proceed but all I get is a message saying 'call on route requires train ahead'. I have read the manual but cannot find anything regarding this message. Am I missing something or is this a bug.

I seem to get the same as well.

That's because the warner route is not for routing trains into an occupied platform, it is to give a shorter overlap. There is no call on facility into platform 5 as two trains are not allowed to be there at the same time

Bandiez got mixed up with terminology. A red call-on exit button is provided at Bletchley P.5.

It looks like it's a bug with TK4126- it's possible to set a call-on from TK4128 and TK9834 into platform 5 without a problem.

The statement "Call-on route requires train ahead" seems to indicate that the route is valid but the conditions aren't right. Steamer suggesting that it works from other signals would seem to confirm this.

If you set a yellow-arrow warner route which I suspect is what Noel is suggesting then the route would set but the signal wouldn't clear until the first train had left the platform, so it seems that this is not what is being tried. I also know of at least one location where you can set a warner route and the call-on will work, but I don't think this is generally allowed nowadays, nor is the area concerned simulated by SimSig, and it may have even been removed as the panel concerned has had some fairly recent work done to it.

I don't have the sim on here to check, but it does seem like it is probably a bug.

It could be something to do with only half the platform (South End) being occupied?

No, the button is simply not working for signal TK4126, as Steamer said.

Possibly if different track circuits rather than whole platforms can be involved in routes, which is fairly common in the real world. Try occupying the other half with the F11 menu and then setting the route if there is more than one track in the platform line.

It isn't this. There are three signals that can set a route into P5 in the Up direction. Two of them (TK4128 and TK9834) will happily set the call-on, however the one from the Carriage Sidings (TK4126) won't. Unless there's a seriously weird set of requirements from that particular signal, I'd suggest it's a bug with TK4126.

To clarify: there are no warner buttons at Bletchley, Bandiez was confusing the red call-on buttons with yellow warner buttons.

On a slight tangent, why are the call-on buttons red on Rugby, not white? Have (real life) design standards changed?

Actually, there is one, but on an entirely different platform to the one in question, and (probably!) entirely unrelated to this problem...

Just came across this myself… although according to the sectional appendix those platforms at Bletchley are apparently PP-A (i.e. for attaching and detaching only), so strictly speaking you're not supposed to use that call-on route for that purpose anyway.
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

I raised a bug on Mantis (#0014447 for those with access) a few days ago regarding call-on routes in general. I am seeing the "needs train ahead..." error in a couple of different sims.

I had the same problem in Bletchley P5 with 5W03/2W03 and 5W93.

5W03 arrives in P5 from CS at 06:25, changes to 2W03 to leave for Bedford at 06:37. 5W93 is due to arrive in P5 at 06:29, then to leave for MK at 06:36.

I couldn't signal 5W93 into P5 without it departing attached to 2W03, though it didn't actually join.

The answer was to hand-signal 2W03 into the "BLETCHLEY RLF2 NK" (after all it's only a single 153 so could not be over-length), hold it there until 5W93 had left, then back to P5, ready to depart.
