Just a couple of questions/points about the new release, although not specific to it I don't think.

Where is the entry point at Ivybridge? I noted a train took less than 2 minutes from entering Ivybridge to passing Aish (Most trains are booked 4 minutes Ivybridge to Aish), so it must be somewhere between Ivybridge and Aish. Could this perhaps be moved back and include a separate one for when a train calls at Ivybridge?

I think this could be a general SimSig loader issue, but anyway, I noticed I had the sim on 'perfect' mode and yet a train still entered the area 1 minute late, any idea why? This was at Ivybridge, not sure if it is specific to it though.

Keep up the good work.

Ivybridge is about ten miles from Totnes. There is an issue with the entry point here which Peter is aware of.

No idea about the one minute late thing though.

Sounds like both issues I mentioned are related then to the Ivybridge entry point issue.

What timetable are you running? It's possible that the late running train has a rule assigned to it, but having said that Ivybridge isn't the sort of fringe where I'd expect to see "Must not enter until X minutes after Y happens" rules applied.

How long ago did the last train enter there, i.e. could one have been stuck behind the other?

That fringe was changed Steamer at V5 due to the omission of Aish Crossovers from previous versions, Aish being a compulsory timing point.

My understanding is that the Ivybridge entry was retained so that existing timetables were not broken by it. It is possible I suppose that Ivybridge wasn't in the right place to start with and now is.

The Trouble with Aish as an entry point is that for older timetables Aish isnt a location, let alone a Compulsory one. BR era timetables run Newton Abbot > Dainton Tunnel > Totnes > Hemerdon > Lipson Jcn > Plymouth.

Ivybridge Didnt have a station (as far as Exeter PSB is concerned) until 1994 so doesnt appear Prior to that. that said it is possible to approximate timings for older timetables based on current ones from RTT.

I noticed it on a timetable I was making. I then created a brand new timetable and created a couple of trains to see what was going on. It was in this new timetable I noticed what I reported.

Ivybridge can't be in the right place if trains are passing Aish within 2 minutes of entering there. The section at line speed is at least 4 minutes Ivybridge to Aish.

Someone in the know has kindly answered this for me.

The shunt routes allow a shunt up the bank as far as the first signals - i.e a loco coming off a train or a unit shunting out of the way. There are no permissive moves allowed on the incline so the tracks must be clear. A main aspect requires clear signals all the way into Central i.e. (green only).

Additionally, when a main route has been used to send a train towards Central, the protecting points will self normalize as the track circuits they sit on become clear and will remain locked normal until the track circuits indicate a train has fully arrived at Central.

If a movement was made as a shunt the points will not self normalize, so the signaler will have to normalize the points themselves if the signaler is not able to set a return route back into the station promptly.
Control Tables and Aspect Sequence Chart also confirm this.

If someone can dig out the Miles and Chains for the 3 locations for me I'll double check the TC lengths between. If it is wrong then it's more likely that it's the placing of the locations where its amiss - particularly Ivybridge which post-dates the plans I have.

According to Table A of the Sectional Appendix, Ivybridge is at 234m 27ch, Aish Crossover is at 230m 37ch and Totnes is at 222m 66ch.

Ivybridge is at 234mi 27ch, approx 1mi on the approach side of UM230R signal.

Aish is at 230mi 37ch

Totnes is at 222mi 66ch

****

I'm not able to see what, if any, gradients are programmed into the sim, but they are very significant between Ivybridge and Totnes - that may have an impact on SRTs

The location given for UM230R signal above is wildly out!

Typo, meant to read 2 miles.

Ivybridge is just before 234 1/4 MP
UM230R is just after 232 1/4 MP

It isn't there either. It is 232m 11ch, BEFORE not after the 232 1/4 peg.

Since mileposts go down in the up direction, it's actually after the 232¼ milepost... assuming you're travelling in the up direction on the up main.

I was working on the theory of where the signals in that area are considered by those who work there to be located. To avoid confusion if anyone who has to visit the signal referred to where it was it would be just after because its on the high side of the milepost.

How a driver would report the signal probably depends on who he is and how much his message got distorted before his report got to those who needed to receive it though.

The error was essentially a typo in allocating the relevant (sub) TC to the location Ivybridge.

Well, one might hope that mileposts will still go down if you go up along the down main...

Well, true, but was trying to point out that neither James' nor Stephen's posts were incorrect.

Thank you for the update to what is one of my favourite simulations Peter.

Out of interest are there any plans to amend the layout in the Lapford station area to facilitate the goods yard that used to be there?

I think it used be served by a cement train, along with the fertilizer train to the U.K.F. Sdg. I have a 1992 TT waiting in the wings and this local trip working cannot currently be timetabled.

Kind regards.

When in doubt - Contingency plan 2A. Someone didn't buy the milk - 2A. Someone sneezed at Swansea - 2A. A driver complains the cab is too cold - 2A. Unable to operate a HEx service 4 vice 8 - 2A. Points failure at Ipswich - 2A. Landslip at Pitlochry - 2A

I've raised this several months ago. Mantis 0013885 applies.

Theres no requirement for the Yard to be modelled as the signaller has no involvment in the shunt and the groundframe isn't equipped to lock a train in. all it needs is for a train to be timetabled to/from Lapford witha rule to hold it there for a while. its possible to write a Valid timetable, but the train fails to change direction at Lapford and Continues to Eggesford.
