I was observing the Exeter game this evening when that pesky WinsfordSaltMine, faced with a points failure, put a Voyager into platform 2. Said Voyager was reported in F2 as being 116m long (thus 5 cars, if my maths is right). According to the wiki platform 2 is only 102m. I haven't changed the wiki as I'm not sure whether that's wrong or whether the sim is incorrect, but thought I'd report it just in case. had a quick glance at my sectional appendix and St Davids Platform 2 is 102m long as reported in the wiki

I should probably better clarify - the Voyager did fit inside the starter (and track circuit), so with Jeff's confirmation, the Sim must be slightly out.

The track circuit is 139m long. 102m from the buffers takes us to a point parallel to the A-end of the pointwork which is presumably to mitigate fouling. The sim is not 100% correct in that there is only one TC whereas it's split it into two (130m/9m) otherwise you would not be able to send anything into the siding if P2 was occupied. Thanks Stephen. Whatever the case, it appears differently on the sim to on the ground. On the ground it looks like the signal is ahead of the points, whereas in the sim the platform starter is very much inside the points. Of course that might be deliberate to workaround a complex layout, deliberate to replicate appearance of the panel, both or neither, but hope it helps in any case. The signal is in line with the points in reality and the track circuiting isn't right in the sim either. You could not use the siding with the platform occupied in reality. Log in to reply |

Yeah having had a glance at the IRJ it's just one TC in the platform that occupies the points as well, so siding not accessible with train in platforms
