Hello,

I just don't seem to succeed in the join between 1M16 and 1M16-1....

Yes, I've read the sticky about the UP sleeper train, but that's from 2010 and I don't know if that's still valid....

Ok, this is what I do (according to Wiki: http://www.SimSig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=simulations:edinburgh:edinburghsleeper):
- 1B16 arrives, nothing to do here, all goes ok
- 1B01 arrives, joins 1B16 and detaches 5B01
- TD 1B16 replaced by 1M16-1
- 1M16 arrives at platform 10
- Manual route platform 10 -> platform 11
- 1M16 drives to platform 11
and there it stops.... 1M16 won't join 1M16-1.....

What am I doing wrong?

Not sure if relevant anymore to the current WTT and simulation version, but this WIKI page might help:-

Quote:
To ensure correct sleeper train operation:

i) when 1B16 arrives, it faces UP while 0B16 detaches front;
ii) after 0B16 has detached, but before 1B01 joins, reverse 1B16 to face DOWN;
iii) before it joins, edit 1B01 TT to be DER:5B01 not DEF:5B01;
iv) that's all there is to it.

This is to ensure both portions are facing the same way while joining, which guarantees which way the joined train faces for the subsequent detach. If 1B16 is facing up and 1B01 down, it depends which part actually joins to the other, and so the resultant direction is indeterminate for the 5B01 divide.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

No, unfortunately that didn't help...

The TT of 1B01 is already set to DER:5B01 instead of DEF:5B01
Reversing 1B16 didn't help

Any other suggestions? I'm really puzzled here....

Thanks,

Starting with the basics, have you used F2 to check that both 1M16 and1M16-1 are showing as having reached the joining location?

I can see 1M16 is moving to platform 11. Then both 1M16 and 1M16-1 show "waiting to join" in F2 and nothing happens....

That should mean that both trains think they have reached the correct location for the join to take place. Again at the very basic level, does each train TT if checked through F2 show an action of J and the TD of the other train in the platform. The TD in the J action must be identical to the TD showing in F2 for the other train.

If that is all in order, they may have stopped before coming into contact with each other so we need to try and get the trains to buffer up to each other.

The next trick is to check the direction of movement the trains are showing. If they are both showing the same direction, reverse one of them so they are on a collision course. This will start that train moving towards the other. The trains may still stop before they are in contact. If that happens or if the directions are already set so that the trains would collide if in motion, then use F2 to get one to shunt forward.

I've tried your suggestions without any luck.....

- each train TT shows a J and the TD of the other train
- 1M16 shows down as direction, 1M16-1 shows up as direction
- shunt forward: it does for 2 seconds, then again "waiting for joining train"
- I've checked that none of them are for a red light: if I authorise to pass the signal at danger it says that the train is not in front of a signal

The train list shows:
1M16 direction down waiting for joining train 1M16-1
1M16-1 direction up waiting for joining train 1M16

The train list shows:
1M16 direction down waiting for joining train 1M16-1
1M16-1 direction up waiting for joining train 1M16
In which case it looks very much as if the TT needs the stopping positions adjusted. To test that hypothesis, abandon the TT of one of the trains and if necessary tell it to shunt forward. It should then move until it comes to a stop with a message on F2 that it is stopped with the other train in front. Then pause the sim, re-instate the TT, set the current location to Edinburgh Waverley, in the F2 copy of the TT delete all of the actions above the J, unpause the sim and again if necessary tell it to shunt forward. That may be enough to initiate the join.

I am currently playing this right now always works fine for me the only time it won't do the joins and divides then save Sim when you go back to it later whichever Trains are waiting joins seem to forget what they are supposed to be doing. I have found it better never to save while divides and joins are going on

Ok,

I'll try your suggestions (from both of you) later on this week. I'll report back...

I am having a lot of trouble with this as well. For the record 1M16-1 hasn't got a locomotive at the relevant time: it's just coaches, so telling it (in F2) to shunt forward or anything else is futile. I did reduce its length substantially in F2 and that let the join (of 1M16 and 1M16-1) take place, but when the engine change takes place about 01:30, the engine won't close up to join the coaches, and shortening the coaches doesn't work.

There seem to be several other impossibilities within the timetable at this period too: 0M16-1 needs to pass along platform 11 before 0M16 has left. Two separate moves from platform 10 to the shunt signal in Calton Tunnel show as "routed off planned route".
