I am totally baffled about how to route trains in and out of Hunslet FHH. The time table for a typical train intended for `FHH may just indicate Stourton Junction DM and then a single line FHH. I'm not even sure exactly where or what FHH is (What does FHH stand for? - Is FHH the section of line between S907 and 4487? or is it that asterisk of lines going in all directions labelled Hunslet Down G.F. I've looked at the documentation which indicates that signal IDs begin with an L instead of an S in the curent version of the sim. I'm sorry but I find the documentation on the ground frame and FHH not very helpful to me (I'm assuming the WTT won't have many trains entering or leaving the Middleton Railway [I worked on that about 50 years ago as a Leeds Uni student, and much later worked at a computer centre which overlooked part of the line.]
I'd really like help on, for example, routing 4E84 from S939 to wherever FHH is which satisfies the timetable including any other instruction such as setting up the GF if that is necessary.
Also similar help needed to get a train out, say from DS2+ out to 3855.

I've not used this sim but you may find the answer if you look at this previous topic.

Sorry, but the link "this previous topic" did not help me much. It put me into page 3 of a very general topic, and I had to wade through to page 9, before I got to something relevant. My question has not been resolved there. Nobody has provided an answer on what actions the Leeds West 2 should perform to successfully deliver a train to FHH. Those who have encountered this problem ended up using the "Extreme Measures" option to remove the train, as I have had to do.

I have now worked out how to get a train from DS2+ out on to the lines under the control of Leeds West 2, but the problem of how to deliver a train to FHH still stands - the current Wiki documentation needs to be clarified on this point. The documentation does not spell out the difference between the "pyramid" of lines labelled "FRT TERM" at the top, and the pyramid which includes REC 1, REC 2, DS1 [if the Optional "West Labels" is on. FHH also only appears if West Labels is ON! Are there two separate functional locations, or is it only one functional location - The Freightliner terminal? In my memory, the Middleton Railway with its commercial sidings serving two engineering companies was quite a considerable distance away from the Freightliner terminal.

I also don't understand why signaller on workstation West 2 would be regularly involved in releasing a ground frame for what appear to be frequent regular freight operations rather than a properly controlled signalling system. I would like to know what actually happens here from someone who knows. Is the timetable correct and adequate in this respect

Freightliner Heavy Haul.

Trains from the Methley direction can simply be routed into the siding marked 'DS1', at which point they'll disappear from the simulation.

Trains from the Engine Shed Jn direction should be routed to either S908, or onto the line above. From there, use the ground frame alter the points to send the train to DS2+.

It depends on how well the sidings were used when the layout was designed and commissioned. Also, it's possible that there are regular shunt moves around the non-track circuited lines in that area under the control of the yard staff, so the ground frame allows them to carry those out without involving the signaller- the ground frame only needs to be released for movements that involve Reception Line 1 (REC 1), which is fully under the signaller's control.

The groundframe isnt regularly released. Almost all the levers bar the Crossover are free pull that have no interaction with York IECC.

The train goes in and then shunts as required under supervision of the shunter. That has been simplified to the train exitinv the sim at FHH as further movements have no input to the signaller at York.

Thanks to Steamer and jc92 for the useful and very helpful info provided.

I've spent the morning looking over the satellite imagery of the area around FHH and the Freightliner Terminal proper. The link is https://goo.gl/maps/rmjBzvG2Uyk . Or, you can find the location by using "Balm Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, uk" or lat/long ref 53.775188, -1.530131. Zoom into max level then step back 1 notch. The Middleton Railway curves off left from the main line running diagonally from top left to bottom right and disappears under trees until it arrives at the forge by the side of the M621 and the roundabout at Tunstall Road. There used to be an foundry/forge there which was served commercially by the Middleton Railway in the 60's. Hunslet Yard (FHH?) looks as if it is a parking spot for bulk load trains (tankers, and hopper wagons) - there doesn't seem to be any signs of loading or unloading facilities there. Hunslet Up Sidings seems to be the maintenance depot for Freightliner motive power. The Freightliner Terminal proper is some distance further SE and looks reasonably busy.

I first got to know this area when I did some summer holiday jobs in 1963 at a Cold Storage depot in Pepper Road, Hunslet. It had a private siding. We were called in to start at 4am one Saturday morning when a Refrigerator van containing ice cream was "found" by BT after it had gone missing for about 4 days. The ice cream had softened and individual retail items had coagulated into 1 large mass per cardboard carton. Needless to say it was all written off. The cold storage plant was surrounded by streets of red brick terrace houses (back to backs with outdoor toilets) - the area has completely changed and is now mostly industrial and retail park. In the early 90's I worked at a computer centre located between Middleton Grove and Dewsbury Road where you could see the tail end of the Middleton Railway which ran along the rough dirt road up to the Hunslet Rugby League ground at Parkside Lane - now home to the John Charles Sports Centre and South Leeds Stadium. The computer centre has disappeared and appears to have been replaced by a medical centre called Parkside Surgery. As a spotty adolescent in the 50's used to go down to the Copley Hill Shed spotting the engines in the shed and the trains going in and out of Leeds Central via the triangle connecting the Bradford Exchange line, the Wakefield Doncaster line and the station itself. You could also look down into the carriage sidings and the cattle market sidings. This was when there was the viaduct which at that time took the lines out from Leeds City station to Morley and Batley. The line on the Viaduct was then re-routed to serve the Wakefield Westgate/Doncaster line (when Leeds Central was closed?) and later was re-routed back almost to where it was before. So much has changed over the years that I found it very hard to visualise how the streets and railway lines used to be and there aren't really enough old photographs around to be able to look back and see what it was like in those times.
