We have a situation in a TT under development where trains enter the sim from the departure line in a Yard. There is a TMD adjacent to the yard and two routes to get the train engine from the TMD to the train. One route uses lines internal to the yard and which do not appear in the sim. The other route brings the loco from the TMD into the sim and then back off sim at the entry to the yard.

Which route the light engine would take is random depending on how the locos were lined up in the TMD and where in the yard the departing train is lying. That could be handled in the sim by giving each light engine a probability of entering. The departure of the train needs to be linked back to the light engine so that we don't have a situation where the train departs and then the light engine enters from the TMD.

I can't see a way to use the normal rules scenario (i.e. 6M00 must not enter the area until xxx minutes after 0M00 leaves the area) as 6M00 would then never enter on the days that 0M00 went by the internal route and itself never entered and left the sim.

Have I missed anything obvious? If I haven't is there anything a bit less obvious I could use in this scenario to enable the random entry of the light engines?

Thinking aloud:-
Have duplicate 6M00 (A&B );
a) 6M00A must enter x mins after 0M00 exits the area;
b) 6M00B must not run if 0M00 runs.

not sure of what happens if 0M00 is significantly late entering.

Andy beat me to it....That's what I was thinking too

Another option, manually choose one option or the other for each affected train and write the TT based on that selection.

What about using 6M00B and 0M00 are mutually exlusive? This would mean that
- if 6M00B has entered, then 0M00 won't enter
- if 0M00 has entered, then 6M00B won't enter.

Thanks, guys. All of those options would work if the TT was written to cover every eventuality. In the particular case I am thinking about, there would be getting on for 3 figures of duplicated train TTs. I'm wondering if there is a way to cover the random entry of the light engine without having a ridiculously complicated TT.

Another way could be to 'persuade' the Dev to add in a dummy exit to represent the cut through.

The entry track from the TMD has a point which has 2 routes through it set at random on entry. The loco either runs onto the visible sim, or gets dumped straight out of the sim, either exit triggering the usual rule.

Only caveat is to trap locos going to destinations further away, but easy to do by testing its TT locs.

{Actually testing the TT for final loc is the yard and then randomly setting the dummy exit route if true could be neater}
