Went to Birmingham via Banbury yesterday and noticed that a) the resignalling was proceeding apace and b) it looks suspiciously like an avoiding line or two (freight?) loops are being installed in the area to the east of the platforms that will rejoin the main line just south of the station. Anyone know which it's going to be? Ta OOS Log in to reply |

The up goods line (will be renamed the Up Banbury Loop) is being moved further east to allow space for the line of the new platform 4 (up Banbury platform loop), which is to the north of the footbridge.

I know we need modernisation but I used to love seeing the few semaphores still at Banbury - made me feel that the traditional railway heart was still alive and beating inside today's privatised mess. Sentimental I know but the old and trusted should not be forgotten. Log in to reply |

Thanks all, so the up bay (adjacent to platform 4) is going to be history soon (if not already). Makes sense to have an additional through passenger line I guess. On the southbound journey home, we very often have to sit to the north of the station waiting for a platform.
