Evening all,

I friend and I have been plating Swindon sim and have run across a slight issue.

A points failure has occurred at Didcot North Jn, so I decided to route via the other line and back over. Unsignalled move, do we talked past. However, the train (1D13) then claimed the points were against him.

For the time being, I have done the "hand-of-God", though I'd appreciate if this could be investigated.

Regards,
Jamie.

Unfortunately, attachments aren't working at the moment so I can't see the picture you posted.

The message isn't to do with wrong routing, it means that the train has reached a set of trailing points that are in the wrong direction. Have you ensured that all the points on the route you want the train to take have been manually set in the correct direction? Some crossovers at Didcot have ends that can be controlled independently (normally they'd be paired together), so check all of those.

If you've checked and you're sure you've set it right, can you describe the move you're trying to make so that others can try it?

If the attachment worked, you'd be able to see they're correct- I can't really describe the move right now.

The message essentially means "unable to find valid path to continue" - years ago this, and "waiting at buffer stop" etc all came under a more generic status "run out of valid track". While you have locked the points correctly, that particular route through those track circuits doesn't exist in the simulation - it isn't a signalled move so it would never need to have been programmed. To program every theoretical route through every track circuit would add greatly to the workload of building the simulation, for (generally) very little realistic benefit.

In reality, such an unsignalled move wouldn't be permitted to get around a simple infrastructure failure such as this - Module TW7 (Wrong Direction Movements) only permits it in very very exceptional circumstances. What would be slightly more permissible, would be returning the train to Didcot East Jn to divert back via the station - TW7 1.1c "(Permitted) to make a movement to return from a line blocked by accident, obstruction, failure or other exceptional circumstance". But even then it would be done as a matter of last resort and only if a suitable points operator to manually wind the points couldn't be found within a reasonable time frame (30-60 minutes from my experience of "reasonable time")

I would take the driver's "points set against train" as him (correctly) protesting your instruction to proceed onto the wrong line as in contravention to the rule book. Return the train behind SB2209 and wait for the techs to get on site, then use Incident Control Panel to manually wind the failed points normal and talk by the signal. Didcot S&T are based in the triangle, so they won't take long to get there!

I suspect it's because there's no valid (sub-)route over the Xover in the down direction, reporting that the points are set against the only valid route ahead of the train.

Edit: James posted at same time!

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.
