Looking for some advice/insight from anyone who knows about these things. Am banging my head against a brick wall with VirginMedia's CEO's office. Basically, I had an email I sent to a specific email address blocked by a company called MailChannels.com, or at least they notified me of the block. After much to-ing and fro-ing MailChannels said: Currently we could see that there is a lot of spam being forwarded from the domain "ntlworld.com" through mailchannel from different accounts, so we have to block the domain "ntlworld.com". Also this report shows NTLWorld as blocked for Spam http://mxtoolbox.com/domain/ntlworld.com/ I then had to-ing and fro-ing with the CEO's office at VM acting as a kind of middleman not having a clue as to what's going on. MailChannels have basically said that if VM get in touch they should be able to resolve but VM refuse to accept there is anything wrong their end concluding that: I have discussed with our technicians and also sent a copy of your mail to them and they advised, it has nothing to do with Virgin media. You should check your computer for virus as your computer must have been infected or alternatively reset your password. We do not comment on other provider’s domain, but we can confirm that our domain is very secure and protected. Be aware of spam e-mails as they could affect your operating system. Now it's quite possible that there's not an issue at VM but the fact remains that it appears NTLWorld has been blacklisted, perhaps wrongly, but VM don't appear to be interested in resolving - or more accurately don't understand the issue. If anyone knows anything about this sort of thing I have the full transcript of my interaction with MailChannels which I'd appreciate some assistance in understanding so I can better engage with VM. Honestly? By the time you're up to 3 different blacklists then it's time to change provider for someone who is competent at not letting spam out. That much is something Virgin Media (or NTL or whever) should have done a long time back. At this stage you're not only floating up a creek, you're without a paddle, a rubber ring and perhaps even a coastguard. Log in to reply |

If VM contact the spam list to get delisted, they will be listed again within 24 hours because ntlworld addresses are a large spam source. The tale below explains why. ntlworld got hacked and all account details taken. Any account that is still using the same password as at the time of hack can be used to send spam. It is nothing to do with user PC's this is access to the ntlworld mail server with the correct credentials. The spam lists use a blunt instrument of wholesale blocking to get ISP to pay attention, and your complaint is part of that plan, ie lots of irate users complaining about their mail being blocked. The only solution is for VM to reset all ntlworld mail server passwords and then ask to be unblocked AFTER 'purging' all the compromised passwords. Doing this of course means admitting that they were hacked in the first place.
