Hi everyone! I am reasonably new to Simsig, however I understand the concepts now. I am wondering what the best simulation for a single controller would be? I'd like it to have some challenge to it but not so big its impossible to do solo. I have three monitors so I can spread a simulation across multiple displays if required. If you want a bit of a challenge you could try Salisbury with the 1985 timetable. Plenty of shunting and trains visiting every siding on the patch. The York, Leeds (all three), Rugby (three again), and Tyneside sims can be managed by a single player, and you have ARS to help out if needed. Some of the bigger areas, like Victoria or Wimbledon, can be run by one person but you need ARS to keep an eye on the rest of the patch. Kev Log in to reply |

You can always have a crack at a bigger sim and run it at 0.75 speed or even 0.5 while you build up some confidence. Derby solo is a good challenge for a donationware sim. Log in to reply |

Highly recommend Carlisle, which is noted as an intermediate sim, but with a modern timetable is more than manageable on an individual basis. Not so much with the 79-80 timetable mind! Log in to reply |

Good evening Thomas I can heartily recommend the excellent Oxted and Lancing. Oxted will get you used to starting to make regulating decisions (a number of sections of single line) and Lancing will be a good start to learning the art of working level crossings (Very simple two track railway but with a large number of crossings) Lastly just have to say enjoy your time with us. Depending on what you're looking for, I'd highly recommend something along the lines of Exeter, Westbury, Brighton or Derby. These are all fairly managable single player sims. OK the area may be quite large, but with their supplied timetables are not too intensive James Log in to reply |

I started on Stafford. Busy enough to provide a challenge but not super over whelming. I then moved up to Kings Cross. The '85 or '79 TT's are very difficult for a single player due to all the headcode changes but the modern timetbale is manageable. Log in to reply |

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm currently doing some Liverpool Street (with ARS running the lines in) to get my head around fast platform allocation and slotting. I'll move onto the suggestions very soon though!

I found that If you are an 'Internal* (someone who works in the railway) that some of the basic signalling rules were already patched into the head. I started off with Simulations from my area. (Scotland) Motherwell and Paisley showed up and I got a lot of my sim experience from those two sims. Now I hit most of the others available. I Have just started to host simulations. If you find yourself online whilst I am hosting, please feel free to join in and I can guide you through things, as would anyone else that is also taking part of the session. Externally, there are many sources throughout the internet to get the rules of signalling etc, but again, joining some games and getting right into the mix of things will give you the best experience. I may start to do hosting sessions for new users who want to learn a bit more and take part and perhaps one day host a sim themselves. I'm no genius to this all, even with 11 years experience in the railway, but I would like to think what I have learned, I can pass on to others. I went Royston, Oxted, Brighton, Carlisle 79/80. I think things escalated rather disproportionately.

Westbury is easily managable for one person, that was the first sim I played. Exeter or Gloucester also reasonable.

Having worked in Derby PSB I found it almost impossible for a single person to operate the three panels, especially at service start up time.. I gave up after 2 hours sim time totally exhausted..
