I have been running this sim, and have noticed near the on duty discriber there is a orange box with "Int" in either white or greyed out. can anyone tell me what they are or what they are for please

if the Int is in white there is red text and lines on the panel (picture int-on.png)
and if it is greyed out (int-off.png) the red lines are not there, have looked at the valleys section of wiki, but have not found anything and have not seen it before
right or left clicking the mouse on it changes its state.

It displays the Interlocking boundaries. Radyr box, for instance, has two- Radyr and Pontrypridd. In terms of running the simulation, it doesn't matter whether they're on or off, although when you get a failure message it might help narrow down the area the failure is in.

At a guess, it's the interlocking areas.

Steamer covers the subject quite nicely, I've added a new section to each of the manuals.
