The last comments I can find on this subject was around 5 years ago so I'd like to raise the subject again. In emergency (points failure, for instance) I have been working passenger trains over good lines in accordance with what used to be the rules when I was in the business i.e. 1) The goods line must be clear throughout. 2) The route must be set throughout (i.e. the exit set before the entrance) 3) All points leading off the goods line secured in the appropriate position to prevent runaways etc...) 4) Finally, in Simsig, ticking the "may use goods line box" which it tantamount to getting Control authority (or that of the box manager, where appropriate). The box which pops up that says the "driver has been informed" I take to mean that the driver is aware he may get diverted over a goods line. Is this still the case or have things changed, or, in the passage of time since I was actively involved in the industry, have I forgotten something I should have done. I wouldnt tick "accept route over goods line" the driver still needs to call and question the route at which point you can authorise him onto it anyway via the phone call.

Thank you. That's true, of course, but if you do as you describe, a penalty is incurred for something outside of your control. Anyone else have any comments? So a timetable set on a day where things were booked through the goods line could have that box ticked. However, if you are running via the goods to get round a temporary failure you need to stop each train and advise the Driver. Yes, there is a penalty in SimSig but does that really matter? An example of the run over goods lines is 1Q## trains. The option is there so enable this to happens as the call initiated for the route via goods lines is done on the class of the train in question. Sending a class 1, 2, or 9 train into this track circuit causes a penalty. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: VInce |

Thanks for the explanation. Seems a bit harsh during infrastructure failures but, as someone else said, it really doesn't matter.
