I'm at a bit of a loss understanding the controls and lights for the req/slot between Cardiff Central and Cardiff West Junction - do I have to wait for the lights to stop flashing? One part of the manual says the route can be set when the white light turn solid, the other part says that it turns while once it's been set...

Also - is there a bug in the timetable with train 5L43? I can't see a way to route it between the Barry Main up line from signal 423 through to Cardiff C. platform 4 - the sim only lets me set routes via exit E.

Finally - what do the J K and L signify?

Thanks in advance.
Dave

The route can be set when the slot light (not the 'request'/'requested' light) is flashing white, and turns solid when the route is set. I'll correct the manual, thanks for pointing it out.

Please state which timetable you're using- there are 5 supplied TTs, plus at least one user-written TT in the downloads area.

They're the route suffixes- usually, A is the left-most route, B the second left-most, and so on. Routes J, K and L lead to 425, 455 and Riverside siding respectively.

Ah - yes, I'm playing '2016 "Vale of Glamorgan Diversions" [9th September 2016]', starting at 00:00.

5L73 is timed to enter at 00:23, and go through to Cardiff C. platform 4. The only way it seems that this is possible is via the relief line - but this conflicts (timetable wise) with 5F91, which specifies that route in it's TT.

Thanks
Dave

Also, this doesn't appear to happen for me - they stay flashing all the way till without change while the train passes through the junctions.

Correction - routing from signal 323 through 'C' to C.C. platform 6 does make the light go solid white - but routes from CC to Down E&C at Canton do not.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong - hence the asking for clarification.

A video tutorial explaining the half routes, and the slotted routes is available here.

The slot control is only needed for the routes which start on Taff, cross to West, then cross back to Taff. It allows the Taff signaller to simply set the route from signal to signal, instead of using the half route buttons. The slot is not used for routes that start on one panel and end on the other, for example routes to Canton.

Hope that helps. I'm writing this on my phone, so can't check the TT issue at the moment.

Yes, the route to P4 is only available from the Barry Relief line. I'm not sure if this is a TT bug though- such conflicts do exist in real life, and it's up to you to notice that the train is booked to P4 when routing it at Grangetown.

Ahhh - that makes a lot more sense, thanks for that - the video was great. I think the notes on the manual could do with some clarification about how this works - that it is needed for only some of the potential routes isn't at all obvious, even with the J K and L annotations on the sim, and I don't think it's something I've seen in other sims.

If the two signallers are siting next to each other, what's the practical reason why this is being done in the real world?

Thanks very much - that all helps tremendously!

Dave
