Dan Would love to come along. I had a guided tour in 1982 so I expect things have changed a bit since. Do I need anything like hi-viz, toe-tectors, hard hat? “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

I too would have signed up to come as Drax Power Station was in the area which I had responsibility of the allocation of locomotives to trains in the region between 1997 - 2001. Unfortunately I have hospital commitments every Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays. I hope you can take photos & upload them on here. Would be interesting to see the 3 rail bunkers where the coal/biomass trains unload at as well as where the oil trains go. Have a good day.

I'd love to come and have permission from SWMBO. Would anyone be able to collect me from and return me to Goole station? I'm sure I can supply beer in return. (If not, I'll look into getting a taxi.) Last edited: 30/07/2017 at 21:32 by clive Reason: None given Log in to reply |

If the travelling will be easier please fell free to pick alternative stations (York or Selby are both pretty much on my direct line but Donny is a bit more difficult). “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply The following user said thank you: BarryM |

I can't make this trip as am abroad, but I've been lucky enough to have a number of tours of Drax, having done work there on many occasions over the years. Aside from the sheer size of the machinery and engineering, the best bit is the unit control room - try to visit it as part of the trip. When originally built it was a fully electro-mechanical setup (think PSB), and was converted to SCADA control in more recent years (think IECC). As it is still housed in the same room, there's now a lot of free space! Never visited the rail control room though. Worth the trip. Log in to reply |

Dan I'm picking Clive up at Goole in time to get to the visitor centre for 13:00. As I asked earlier, do we need anything like PPE? Can you PM me and Clive with a contact number in case anything goes belly up on the day. I'll drop you one back with my number and no doubt Clive will do the same. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

good evening, On arrival at site, park in the visitor carpark and make your way on foot to the south gatehouse for security check-in. Your guide will pick you up from there for your tour. As the warm weather has finally arrived, I would like to highlight that everyone needs to have the ability to completely cover arms and legs, (preferably trousers, and full sleeve shirts/blouses or cardigans). Footwear also needs to be flat and sturdy, e.g. trainers. No ballet shoes or sandals please. The clothing and footwear requirements are part of the health and safety regulations for conducting tours, if tour attendees are inappropriately attired the tour will have to be curtailed as they will not be allowed to enter certain areas. also been sent this: Visiting Drax Always Listen to your guide and follow instructions Stay with your party You must Wear flat sturdy shoes or boots Wear long sleeved garments Wear trousers Wear the Personal Protective Equipment provided Be Aware The tour requires walking and climbing to a height of 23ft/7m up staircases with safety rails The bus tour is on electric carts which are open to the elements visitors need to dress to the weather conditions on the day of their visit Photography is permitted, your guide will inform you where Minimum age for a tour is 8 years old Of potential hazards around site There may be random bag searches by security Drax is a drug and alcohol free site Log in to reply |

Excellent visit aided by two very good guides. And we got to see the normally off-limits Materials Handling Control (including their own mini-IECC controlling the rail network within the site). Thanks for arranging it all. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 03/08/2017 at 19:07 by postal Reason: None given Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Stanyon |
