Moves north from Oxford Down CS 1-4 - same bug as 2-4 toward station? 08/08/2017 at 03:10 #99923 | |

Hi. It appears that any attempt to move north from any of the DCS roads gets caught at a virtual signal 125X and goes into "waiting for right-away" mode for ever. Abandoning the timetable and authorising 125X to be passed at danger gets the job done, but is a bit clunky. This looks like the same bug as previously fixed for moves south from DCS roads 2-4. If so, can it be fixed please? Could a check be done too on moves north from the UCS onto the Through Siding at the same time? It's a great simulation, by the way, bringing back many happy memories that I'm trying to shoehorn into 1970s and 1980s era timetables. Log in to reply |

Quote: Could a check be done too on moves north from the UCS onto the Through Siding at the same time?Despite the LOS signal implying that this should be possible, there's no facility in the ground frame to allow a train to exit the UCS in the northbound direction, and no entry point in the timetable editor to allow this either. That suggests that the move wasn't possible/permitted around the year 2000. If the move should be possible, post below and it'll be investigated further. I was a Signaller at Oxford at the time when the Up Through Siding was one way, ie UP towards the Station. That wasn't really a siding as I used to run freights up from Wolvercot via the Up loop/Through Siding/Up platform and up passenger loop to Hinksey North especially if I had a Class 4 freight catching up a slower moving, or early running other freight. There was an exit from the Up Carriage Sidings onto the Up Through Siding operated by a release for a ground frame for shunting purposes and there was a limit of shunt board to stop further movement towards a catch point near to the North Junction. There was no signalled move from the Up Through Siding into the Up Carriage Siding. The ground frame came out when they made the Up Through Siding into the Down direction only Down Jericho is about 2005. I know about the ground frame use as I had a SPAD incident there one morning where a move was made in the carriage sidings and they passed the Stop at the exit onto the Through Siding. There was room for a two car to carry out that manaeouvre, but not a three car, it went past the Stop board and activated the track circuits on the panel. Luckily it as pulled up short before it spread the points. Photo for info taken on the 17/5/2008 if that is any use. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Thanks for your reply. I honestly can't answer for 2000 as I knew the area much earlier. When opened in 1973, the "yellow peril" stated that the purpose of the UCS ground frame was to "control entrance to the up carriage sidings" suggested that the move would have been possible for ECS run-rounds, plus trains running to/from the coal depot in the former L&NWR station at Rewley Road (later an ATS tyre depot and now the site of part of the bus stands and Said Business School.

Like you I didn't know Oxford Panel in 2000, I came to it in 2006/7. By that time the only time the ground frame at the North of the UCS was used was release locos which had arrived on charters, and then only if they could not be shunted within the sidings itself, or, to make a short shunt out and back with a Turbo to change lines in the sidings. Rewley Road was closed by then and that button on the carriage siding in the photo was not available for use, even though it remained in place. The only route you could call was from North Junc Up Loop or off the Bicester branch up to OX135.

Mantis 17742 raised regarding norhbound entry from the UCS and disconnection of the route into the UCS from OX67 and OX87.
