Evening all.

Is TBW something that could be implemented within the sim when you have multiple TCF or Signal failures.

on a side note, Is it possible to recreate a complete loss of signalling within the sim?

A mildly silly suggestion - close the simulation display and wait until the telephone goes mad?

There isn't an easy way to fail a whole area (unless you are a tester) but you could use the incident control panel (F11) to fail signals, points and track circuits one by one.

Once you have your failed area you can simulate TBW by using F11 (trains tab) and tell the appropriate train to ignore the next signal. You'd need to repeat this as the train approaches each failed signal. When you tell a train to ignore the next signal you are given a choice as to what it will do - carry on to the next signal, stop after x metres or carry on to the next signal and call in.

Cambridge does have a scenario where you have to coordinate pilotman working; and while I understand from Clive it used "core" functionality; it still only worked in one place in one set of scripted circumstances.

I imagine TBW could probably be set up in much the same way - but like the pilotman working on Cambridge you'd be limited to its implementation against a specific line closure or failure. There are simply far too many variables it to have it in a dynamic; ad-hoc manner.

In my experience, it really doesn't happen very often. In 3 years of working in control I can recall exactly 2 instances of TBW actually being implemented - plenty of times when it has been discussed; or begun being set up; but only twice has there either been the resource; or the unavailability of infrastructure to actually see it through to implementation.

Besides which; while a more experienced and/or "professional" (as in rules aware/competent) user would probably be comfortable with TBW; I'm not sure some of our more novice users would derive any benefit from it - indeed many multiplayer sessions I Join even simple track/point/signal failures aren't handled appropriately if we're going to that level of detail.

Regarding your second question; you would be able to set it up using the Incident Window (F11); but you arent get it to trigger multiple issues simultaneously - the end-user would see each track/signal/point fail in turn.

Thanks for the reply folks. I really only thought about it today, as we had severe signalling problems due to cable theft between North Queensferry and Inverkeithing. (Edinburgh Sim for those not familiar with area) 6 and a half hours of hell today. I don't believe TBW was introduced today in this situation, as trains were still taking half an hour between Dalmeny and Inverkeithing, I assume talked passed the 6 signals affected.

Thanks again for the input regarding the implications/complications that it involves creating it in sim.

You believe incorrectly - during Monday's incident TBW was implemented over the Down Fife line from EY661 to EV413 from 13:50 to 18:46.

Temporary Block Working in SimSig would be both extremely boring and pointless, given all the signaller typically sees is red spread with loss of point detection and signal aspects in the affected area.

I should have probably worded that as "I don't know if it was or not" as I didn't have access to the log.

With regards to the sim, I know it would look boring, but it would be another scenario to deal with.
