Curiosity has got the better of me. I am considering the purchase of the Edinburgh sim and have just been looking at the Edinburgh manual which includes a diagram of the OHLE Area West of Edinburgh. I note that some of the lines are shown as non-electrified, which is fine for the earlier timetables, but I wss wondering if there a version and/or timetable in which you can route electrified stock along the other lines which are now electified, e.g. Haymarket platforms 1 and 2? Edit: Apologies. I have just noticed this in the manual: Due to the complexity of the changes the ability to also provide the 2007 onwards layout is too difficult at the moment. This answers my question. Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate. Last edited: 14/10/2017 at 13:45 by bugsy Reason: spelling correction Log in to reply |

I share your optimism for a modern layout of the Edinburgh sim. It's probably one of my favorite sims, and also where I am based. Hopefully one day, the sim will be brought up to a modern era, and will include the borders route to Tweedbank too. There is a lot of changed going on in Edinburgh (3 extended platforms) and also Millerhill will soon have a new Hitachi depot for the class 385s. One can hope. The Mac Sims seem to be taking a back seat, in saying that there is so much upgrading work going on and new rolling stock on the way, maybe we need to wait.

I can only make sims and update same if I have the relevant data, so they will always be frozen in certain time eras. Having said that I do have data for Edinburgh from around the time the Borders reopened and I will be doing something with it but the usual caveat applies. I had hoped to release as-is in loader but there's a bit I haven't been able to get to work yet. The other 3 are now as up to date as the data I have, as is Paisley. I know Waverley and Haymarket stations quite well as one of my lads lives a stone's throw from the Haymarket Depot. I remember the small entrance to Haymarket station before the upgrade, which is a vast improvement. Whenever we vist Edinburgh, we use Haymarket station, but sometimes have to change at Waverley depending what train we catch from Kings Cross. I have the Kings Cross, Peterborough and York sims at the moment and they are my favourites because travelling often, I know the route quite well. I am going to add Tyneside and Edinburgh to the list soon and hope that a Doncaster sim of some kind can be produced in the future (notwithstanding the conflict of interest that I've read about), to complete the set from London to Edinburgh. Mmmm. Would make one hell of a chain, but would probably be impractical. Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate. Log in to reply |

It would leave Edinburgh out on a limb. Oh well. I know it's a long way off, but what I need to do now is to prepare a joint 'Christmas & Birthday' list, which includes the Tyneside and Edinburgh sims, that I can send to my boys. It'll cost them more than the usual underwear, crystallised stem ginger and marzipan chocolates, but they can club together. One of them has already suggested this anyway.
