Quick question for a forthcoming TT:

How often is stock moved to the Down side at Longsight? I understand it has the wheel lathe, and there are photos online of 390s on those sidings. I can't find any schedules to it on Real Time Trains though- are the moves timetabled?

Apparently not very often at all these days, was mostly Northern 323 units, London Midland used to use it but now have there own lathe at Soho, and TPE now have there own lathe at Longsight as well.

Indeed; a few Northern DMUs have used it over the winter period as well as the odd container flat but it is mostly 323s - only a few Northern drivers at Piccadilly sign it as moves are so infrequent.
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

Thanks. Where do the 390s go for wheel attention, out of interest?

Wembley and Polmadie apparently have wheel lathes for the Pendolino fleet; I'm sure I've seen them use Longsight on occasion but I suspect it's a bit of a challenge because I don't think you can actually get an entire 390 unit through it if the flat is on the country end!
