Uploaded and approved for download is a new timetable for Tyneside. Description as follows:

This timetable is based on the weekday service which ran during Network Rail's "Newcastle Track Upgrade" project, which ran between 6th and 14th January 2018. The project closed the south end of Newcastle station and allowed Network Rail to replace the various points and track there.

As a result of the work, the lines are closed on the south end of the station. Nothing is or should be routed through signals 241-248 inclusive. Platforms 9-12 are not accessible and must not be used. All services running to/from the south end of the station are routed through Keb East junction, allowing them to enter/exit through the north end of the station instead.

SERVICES

Virgin trains East Coast: Generally ran to normal frequencies, but with services retimed north of Newcastle, due to the diversion and the need to reverse at Newcastle. One afternoon service terminates and starts back from Darlington.

CrossCountry: Services running between the west country and Scotland run to the normal frequencies, but with retimings due to the diversion and the need to reverse at Newcastle. Services that ran beween Reading/Southampton and Newcastle terminated short at Durham. These then ran empty to Birtley Junction, where they wait to form another service starting from Durham. Empty stock must be routed onto the up/down slow at Birtley Junction.

Transpennine Express: They were having none of this! With the exception of a couple of early morning and late evening services, all trains terminated at York. As such, there's very few of them in this timetable. An occasional bus ran to serve Chester-Le-Street.

Northern: Services are effectively split in two. Trains to and from Hexham/Carlisle and beyond start and terminate at Metrocentre. These trains restart from the up platform to head back again and should be routed using shunt signal 5481, which you'll need to manually interpose. Trains to/from Morpeth and via Sunderland start and terminate at Newcastle. A bus ran between Newcastle and Metrocentre, although Northern do run some empty stock movements between the two stations.

Grand Central and Tyne Metro: Not affected and ran as normal.

Freight: Due to the use of the Gateshead line by passenger services, less freight ran through the area than normal. There is still a handful of trains however, including the Royal Mail departure.

Notes: The route between Keb South Junction and High Level Bridge Junction is effectively single track, yet all through trains at Newcastle have to use it in both directions. Careful regulation may be required if you get any delays in this area.

ARS notes: ARS has been partially tested. It may cause some minor issues with this timetable. In particular, trains starting at Metrocentre will be off planned path and need manually interposing. Trains running empty Durham to Birtley Junction will need manually routing and manually reversing at Low Fell Jn as ARS believes it's an invalid timtable (although with ARS switched off, the trins will reverse by themselves)

Special Thanks: I was able to write this timetable by amending the excellent August 2016 timetable by Chris Law (with permission). The train types and the entire metro service were taken from this, saving me a lot of work.
Thanks also to Geoff Mayo and his team of developers for giving us Simsig in the first place.

Enjoy the timetable. Feedback most welcome below.

Good heavens. This sounds like a real challenge.

I've only recently puchased Tyneside and have'nt actually had any time to run the sim yet, mainly due work and to 'house duties' shall we say.
I will definately download this timetable when it appears in the download section.

I second the thanks given to Geoff Mayo and his team of developers for giving us Simsig in the first place.

It's perhaps not as bad as it sounds, due to the big reduction in services calling at Newcastle station as a result of the works and the fact that what does still call there is carefully timetabled (unless of course, delays are introduced!)

Are you sure the trains on the Up Carlisle which terminated at Metro Centre reversed at 5481?

If so it appears to be an unusual move as 5481 is someway from the Up Platform and there is even an Up Automatic Signal (262) between the Up Platform and the Cross Over.

I'd have thought the reversals might have proceeded as an ECS move in the Up direction to reverse on the Low Fell Single Line.

Hi Andrew,

My gut instinct would also have been for the trains to reverse on the Low Fell Line. However the working timetables for this period showed no class 5 movements involving Metro Centre besides those running to/from the depot. To double check I used one of those sites with live signalling feeds on the day and they showed trains were starting back from the up platform.

I therefore couldn't conclude of any other possible way to simulate it, besides using signal 5481.

They definitely ran over the crossover in passenger service- numerous references (and a photo!) in Branch Line News around the time concerned. I don't know if Single Line Working was in use or not.
